Las Vegas Question

I'm sorry this not a cruise question, but I know that several of you are from Las Vegas and I was hoping you could help me. You all seen so smart!! :D I have a very special person going to Las Vegas for her birthday. I really need to find a bakery that makes a great carrot cake and can deliver it to a hotel on the strip. It's kind of a tradition that I make her one. I would ship it, but I just don't think it would travel well. Also is there anywhere to get discount Cirque tickets (any show). I know in NYC you can get same day discount tickets, anything like that in Vegas. Thanks for any help you can give me!

I don't live in LV (wish I did) but have been every year since 1987. There is a bakery on Eastern (not near the Strip) called Freed's Bakery and their cakes, pastries, etc are wonderful. I don't know if they deliver....we always ride out there (we keep a car rented).

There is a "ticket outlet" on the Strip near the MGM, Big Coke Bottle, etc. I doubt you will be able to get Cirque tix there though. Most of the shows they have tix for are the smaller shows.

Don't know if this helps very much :)

Judyjay, in all honestly I am not aware of any bakery that would deliver unless it was an expensive wedding cake. I have to agree that many of the hotels have excellent bakeries and that I would call the hotel your friend is staying at and arrange the carrot cake with them. About the tickets. I am not aware of any Discount tickets for any of the major shows. They just do not discount them, Now yes you can get some show tickets at places on the strip but they are of the "B'' casinos basically the "want to be" Vegas headliners. Many of these tickets are given away free to make the showroom full.

About the cake you could try calling Freeds they are pretty good but I have not had anything from there in many years.

Judy: I read your post to DW, who makes an outstanding carrot cake, and her first thought was also Freed's. I agree that the bigger problem is getting a cake to the hotel--but then again, Freed's has been around a long time and maybe they deliver to the hotels all the time--it is worth giving them a call.

I knew someone on this board would have an answer for me. I'll call Freeds today and I'll also check with room service at the hotel. Sorry to hear there are no discounts on the tickets. Thanks to everyone for your help!

Some of the best carrot cake comes from, where else, Costco. Don't knock it till you try it. A huge sheet cake runs about $18+/- and they are in Las Vegas. Pre-order and pick it up, assuming you are a member.

I was stunned at just how good these cakes are. I haven't had the carrot cake, but we've had the vanilla and chocolate cakes, and the vanilla and chocolate filling. YUM!

And you can't beat that price!

You can go stand in line at the Coca-Cola building on the strip - they have discount tickets for some shows, but likely not Cirque which is usually sold out in advance...

Here is the URL to Freed's Bakery in Las Vegas. Nope, don't live there, just happen to read a LV board also.

I just looked at this website. WOW, WOW, WOW. Those cakes are fabulous. Next time I am in Vegas, I think I will pop into the shop and have a look around. Makes you want to get married.

Last time we were in Vegas, we drove over to Freed's for some cake. I will say that what we bought was nothing special, but I've heard wonderful things about their wedding cakes. The area Freed's is located in seemed a bit dicey...so be careful. At least that's how it appeared to us. I don't mean to offend any locals...I could be completely off-base about this observation. :)

Another bakery to try is Layers at Sunset and Green Valley Parkway in Henderson (www.layersbakery.com; 702-221-CAKE) Their cakes and baked goods are out of this world. Unfortunately, they do not deliver. As others have suggested, your best bet is to arrange for the cake through the hotel concierge.

As for Cirque tickets, they are usually not discounted. However, during slow periods some of the Cirque productions may offer discounts. Over the summer, Zumanity at New York New York was offering a special ticket deal including a drink and snack at their in-theatre bar. Le Reve at the Wynn sometimes offers 2 for 1 tickets to locals. You might check with the box office on the slim chance that they are running an unadvertised promotion.

Your best chance to secure Cirque tickets (albeit at full price) might be for the late show. The Mirage box office staff told me that it is much easier to get Love (the new Beatles Cirque production) tickets for the 10:30 show rather than the earlier 7:30 performance. By the way, the Love show is fabulous and well worth the ticket price.:) :)
