Baggage Valet service

Anyone familiar with Baggage Valet service now

being offered by CELEBRITY?

We just returned from a 14 day cruise from Los Angeles

to Hawai'i and, return. About one week before returning

to port in L.A., we were given a form to fill out describing

the new Baggage Valet service. It cost $15.00 per person

for a maximum of 2 bags EACH. We had 3 bags between us

so, I signed up for the Baggage Valet.

The way it works is, the night before arriving in port, your

bags are put outside your cabin (as usual). The only difference

is, when the bags are picked up they go directly to your

airline (ours being American Airlines). The next day, we got

off the SUMMIT and, after customs & immigration, we walked about

50 feet outside the ship terminal in San Pedro, climbed aboard

our transfer bus to LAX. When we arrived there we walked straight

to the check-in kiosk, received our boarding passes and,

went directly to the departure gate. When we arrived in

DEN, we found our bags at the Baggage Claim with the

bags from our arriving flight.

This is a new service. It only works IF you have X's

airlines and, transfer service (as far as I know). And,

right now, with only certain airlines. I know that friends

on the ship flying Southwest and, American West were

not eligible for the service. I do not know why.

I just know, this was GREAT, not having to schlep our bags

from the ship terminal up to LAX and, through the check-in

lines. If you see this service offered, I recommend it.

KUDOS to X for this new service...:D

I agree with Gary-- the baggage transfer program was great. It takes a bit of trust to put your bags out and not see them again until you reach your destination but it sure made leaving the ship much easier and less stressful!:p

Another plus.. we were among the first groups to leave the ship. That turned out not to be such a plus because we were at LAX by 9:00 and our flight wasn't until 3:30 and then was delayed by 4 hours. Sitting at LAX for 10 hours made for a long day; however, our luggage arrived safely with us and I appreciated the service.

We, too, enjoyed this service in Seattle. Since we had an afternoon flight and Mercury docked right in town, we were able to spend a few hours sightseeing before heading to the airport. Unfortunately, our luggage didn't make it home for 24 hours after we did, but we never mind that on the homecoming leg. Not only did we not have to drag the luggage around on disembarking but we didn't have to get it to and into our car. Door to door service was wonderful!

We did it on the Summit VanCouver to LA but it only cost $10 pp for 2 bags each (9/30/06). We also got our boarding passes on the ship and only had to go through security. Again, we were flying on one of the specified airlines out of 4 or 5 that X said were participating. We did not book our air thorugh X or use thier transfers .

It was the smoothest disembarking we have ever done.

I hope all the cruiselines do this.

Does anyone hace the contact info for the baggage valet service?

We are not using X air or transfers, but would be interested in possibly using the valet service on our flight home.

We are flying US Air (but our flight is being "operated" by United Express Shuttle TO San Juan. RETURNING home we are on US Air itself it looks like--with a connecting flight).

Would the valet service work for us?

We didn't get the typical baggage claim receipt (which made me nervous  ). But we did have the paper that said we had participated in the valet service.

Those who are not sure if this service is available should 1) check with your TA or 2) contact Celebrity. We actually didn't find out til we were onboard and received information in our cabin that provided forms to request the service. They said that they could only take limited numbers of bags and we think it was related to docking time and flight times. But we were 'the chosen' and thoroughly enjoyed the service. Some hotels are doing this as well and I believe the service will grow over time.

How do you get a baggage claim receipt for your luggage?

The night before X sends you your baggage tags to attach

to your bags, in your stateroom. We were sent 4 of them.

You attach your Baggage Valet tags INSTEAD of the

ones you are familiar with. Along with these baggage tags

you are given your receipts for your baggage claim checks

and, your boarding passes.

(For our cruise, we did not receive boarding passes

because of some problem that they apologized.

We were advised to get ours at

the terminal which was easy to do, at the self check-in kiosk.)

I have to admit..walking from the terminal, and, climbing

on a bus without our bags was disconcerting. I asked about

our bags, as I assumed they would be on the bus with us, but, I was informed our bags left "early this morning in a truck".

I wondered about those bags until our arrival in Denver.

But, they made it to baggage claim about the same time we did.

This is a great service, and, you will love using it, for sure.

(Now, if only X can figure out how to get them to the

house and, un-packed,I will really be impressed.) :D
