Sequined Gown Too Flashy?

I know you all will want a picture of this gown to really make a decision, but I have not come into the 21st century and bought a digital camara, and I am too impatient to take pics and then post from a CD...ANYWAY!!

I bought a gown yesterday that is sequined from top to bottom. It starts out on top with silver and light blie sequins which blend into light blue sequins which blend into continually darker blue sequins until the gown hits the floor. There are also small clear beads that are cleverly interspersed between the sequins. It's not a very revealing gown, the back is not too low and the front neckline actually comes up to the throat, but is sleeveless. The back has very thin elegant criss-cross straps that have silvery/clear long beads on them. It really is pretty and shimmery, and I plan to wear it with silver sandals and carry a silver evening bag. BUT.....of course I have second thoughts. I want to wear it the first formal night, but having never been on a cruise before, I don't know if it would be a little "over the top."

I know I am asking a lot to have opinions without an actual picture...I'm going to have to just break down a buy a camara!!!

Thanks in advance!

Becky

It sounds beautiful!

I don't think you can be too flashy on a cruise ship, unless you are sparkly AND revealing gown ~ but your dress does not sound too revealing.

I have only sailed on Royal Caribbean, and there are countless women who wear sequined gowns. Actually, there are countless women in taffeta bridesmaid style dresses, dresses with trains, etc. My feeling is that this is one of those few opportunities when you can wear your super-dressy dresses.

On our last cruise, I wore a formal halter dress with beading one night. We went up to the old Connaiseur Club (Cigar Bar) and had a drink. I was the only woman there in a formal dress, and received compliments from several people. No one will look at you askance if your dress is a bit more sparkly than others!

Sounds really nice - and I see your cruise is on Holland America. We have done 5 cruises on HAL (the 6th starts on Friday:D ) You will not be overdressed - while some may not be as dressed up there are many people who are dressed to "the nines". I always wear nice gowns and do not feel ill at ease. (I even got a compliment from our cabin steward on our last cruise with my sparkly green gown)

Good, good, good....I am so glad you all think it is okay. Not that I would have wienied out and not worn it, but it is nice to have some positive feedback. When I go shopping for dresses, I go by myself and I only have the dressing room attendant to tell me what she thinks....and I know she wants to sell dresses! Thanks again! :D
