brn2crz Posted November 6, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 6, 2006 I AM SO TIRED OF THIS BOARD I COULD SCREAM... ( oops I just did) Anyway...Actually the Voyager will only be here (at this point) for Winter sailings Dec 23 o7 - Mid April 08.. The million dollar question is...what will be here for the remainder of the year :(
crazy 4 cruising Posted November 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 6, 2006 Great question. I have been wondering the same thing. I also wonder what will replace the Splendour as she is going to South America. I wondered if the Sept-Oct-Nov 07 no ship bit was maybe due to needing to make some adjustments to the port/dock since the Voyager is bigger, but that is just MY WONDERING. Not trying to start a rumor or anything. So we will be going from 2 ships (1 ALL year long) to 1 larger ship only part of the year? That makes no sense since my understanding is those 2 ships were almost always full. I hope the ship replacing Splendour is a smaller ship!! I also hope they take advantage of the change s and add some new itineraries--doesn't hurt to wish. Bummed to hear that crew is not happy. I'M NOT HAPPY either as I love the ship and the crew. So did you talk to any crew that ARE going to Asia? We are going to do the 16 day Panama Canal trip on ROS & I am hoping that my favorite crew members are still onthere. I'm hoping to get another cruise squeezed in on the ROS, but just don't know if I can swing it.

Don Pedro Posted November 6, 2006 #9 Share Posted November 6, 2006 We asked this question a couple weeks ago, someone at the diamond desk told us that the Rhapsody would return to Galveston when it returns from Asia. They said that Galveston was a profitalble port and would continue to be serviced by RCCL. They also said that after the Liberty is launched there is a good possibility that Galveston will get one of the larger ships. Would I take any of this to the bank? Nope, but that's what they said. crazy 4 cruising Posted November 6, 2006 #10 Share Posted November 6, 2006 That's interesting. I did notice that the just recently ROS is listed for more Asian 3 & 4 day cruises. I sure hope your rumor is true. Did you talk to any crew that are staying on board? Where are they transferring to? We have some favorite crew memebers & we sure hope they are on there when we go to the PC in Sept.

They were saying they cant speak the language and would be hard to learn and they just love the Galveston port and dont want to go to Asia period Its a bad move for RCCL in my Opinion the Rhapsody was filled up on every cruise Ive been on in Sept, oct or nov.! So we shall see if a Ship the size of Rhapsody replaces her for those months!

brn2crz Posted November 7, 2006 #13 Share Posted November 7, 2006 Actually,it appears that you are the first one who has acted rudely..:( I was simply commenting on the fact that this board (the board, as in this message board...Not your question ) is so screwy...I posted my response 3 times before it posted I kept getting a blank white screen, and had to re-write my comments 3 times... ...Hence my comment I am so tired of this board.... Notice how crazy 4's post appeared twice...that and the not posting the response has been non-stop here for months.. Sorry that I did not make myself clear. springtxbill Posted November 7, 2006 #14 Share Posted November 7, 2006 I think that once the Houston Bayport terminal has a definite completion date (now scheduled for Fall 2007) and once the next big ship is put in service either Galveston or the new terminal will get another full time ship. Hope it is a Radiance class. RCCL and Princess will probably see if Houston or galveston gives them the best deal on operating there.:)

It would probably be closer for me. Hey maybe they can have 1 ship in Galveston & 1 in Houston!!! It is just so nice to be able to drive & not have to fly. Aquahound Posted November 7, 2006 #17 Share Posted November 7, 2006 Ok, there's always someone who has to ask the stupid question. I guess it'll be me. According to the new brochure, there are 2007 Galveston cruises Sep-Nov on the Rhapsody. Yes, I know about Asia!!!! Was this yet another RCI brochure SNAFU? Or, is there another ship covering those dates?

Or, is there another ship covering those dates? To me the only "stupid" question is the unasked one. The brochure may say that--in fact in Sept 2006 we actually BOOKED 1 of those cruises listed in that brochure. The ROS was actually SUPPOSEd to have goone to New Orleans, but then they changed their mind and are apparently sending it to Asia. If you go on the RCI web-site and search by Port, you see that there is nothing from Galveston. So we shall see.......
BallFour4 Posted November 7, 2006 #19 Share Posted November 7, 2006 ...someone at the diamond desk told us that the Rhapsody would return to Galveston when it returns from Asia. We've sailed both RCCL ships several times and love them! We'd be sad to the the Rhapsody leave for good as well. Don Pedro's comments give us hope, but once the Rhapsody is gone and the Splendour has left then RCCL has no scheduled Galveston sailings. None, zip, zero. Carnival will be the only game in town. The NCL ships from LaPorte are floating bathtubs and I'd not waste my vacation if that cruise was free. Now... mix in the new Bayport Cruise Terminal with tremendous new construction and you have a great offer on the table for a cruise line to consider. So, all of us that enjoy the benefits of driving to Galveston (for us 31 miles!) let's hope for the best. Spring Bill, when the mega liners come to Galveston or Bayport stop off and pick us up for the trip, we live near NASA!

I truly am sorry if the OP felt I was making an ugly comment, not my intent at all. I was a little more clear in my first (well second ) reply....By the third time I guess I left too much out... ....I am the worlds biggest Rhapsody fan, and RCI fan...And living only 20 min from the port......Have a real vested interest in what gets put at that port..I guess I assume that everyone knows that about me by now

I bet they are negotiating pretty hard to get a commitment. They are probably going to offer pretty nice incentives to get a ship in there. The port authority would have a lot of egg on their face with this brand new terminal and no ships!! Carnival has always gotten the better terminal etc. in Galveston. RCI may be negotiating to be the main cruise line at the Bayport (Houston) terminal.

Mrsg324 Posted November 7, 2006 #23 Share Posted November 7, 2006 My agent mentioned to me that she is hoping she gets to go on the Rhapsody when H & I go in June. She said if she doesn't she more than likely won't get to go on Rhapsody again. She has been told that after April of 08 (I believe that is the date she gave me) that RCI will not be cruising out of Galveston or New Orleans. They are pulling out of both ports. I hope & pray that this is not true. I love sailing RCI.

Hey thats a good point...Carnival has fronted even more money recently for improvements in Galveston...Sort of makes RCI little fish in a a very pricey fish pond... I can just see em...jockying for position as they head to sea :D Bayports about the same distance form my house..So all is good there...It would be interesting to cruise out from a different vantage point..In Galveston its 20 min out through the channel then your done. Coming from Bayport, you would pass the Kemah Area, pass the San Leon coast line ...Pass some beautiful oil refineray scenary...go around Pelican Island...then end up just at the Ferry Landing...... It would be a slow haul up on the return trip ...Someone has guestimated about 2 1/2 hours from Galveston to Barbers Cut.
