Just Off the Island Princess

Got in late last night safe and sound . I will be posting a review shortly .

The Island Princess is a beautiful ship . It has the feel of a grand class ship but with less people on it . No complaints about service , food or cabin . Not the best bands onboard IMO . If I hear "Tiny Bubbles" one more time I think I will get nauseous .

Yes , the Noro Virus was rampant . Over 100 people were stuck in their cabins for 2-4 days . Towards the end of the cruise passangers could not handle anything by themselves . It was served to you by staff which included the Horizon Court . Those of you who are going to go on this ship make sure you are washing your hands constantly . Princess tries to make every effort from spreading this virus but elderly people do not have a strong immune system and many got very ill . Average age on this cruise was 74 . We felt like pups .

If you have any specific questions in the meantime feel free to ask .

Really appreciate your stopping by so soon after your cruise! I know you must have loads of laundry, mail, etc. etc., to do! I do have a few questions when you have time to answer:

1. Was there a duo on board - Elua (Dave & Feline)? They signed on to our roll call and said they would be performing, but I haven't read anything about them - and were they good?

2. Watching the bridge cam it didn't look like there was any water in the very forward upper deck splash pool? I thought that might be a good place to hang out though maybe it's too windy & cold up there?

3. Your itinerary might have been different than ours. Ours is Kona, Hilo, Honolulu, Kauai, and Maui last. Did you see the Volcano from the ship at night and if so was your port order the same?

4. Did you or anyone you knew on board go to the Seahorse Farm in Kona as a shore excursion or on their own?

5. What was the motion of the ocean like? We will be on Caribe deck near the center elevators.

That's it for now. Thanks for offering to answer. Glad you had a good trip, and welcome back to MAINLAND USA!

Really looking forward to your full review post. Things sound good...other than noro, of course.

I have a few questions too.

  1. What Scholarship@sea programs were offered? Any interesting lectures?
  2. Did you see whales from the ship? (Might be a bit early for that.
  3. How were the tender lines at Lahaina? If you didn't have a ship's tour, how early could you get off the ship?
  4. Did you do anytime or traditional dining? If anytime, what times were good/bad?
  5. Was it crowded at the covered pool?

I'll be awaiting any info you have on the seahorse farm tour, volcano sailing, etc. Thanks for any and all info!

There was water in the pool but usually to windy.

We got up at 2:45am to see valcano and we were to far off the coast to really see it. Go to a dark room, light a match and blow it out and the glow you get is what we saw

4. Did you or anyone you knew on board go to the Seahorse Farm in Kona as a shore excursion or on their own?

We did the Sea Horse Farm and it was really a highlight for us

5. What was the motion of the ocean like? We will be on Caribe deck near the center elevators.

We were on the Dolphin deck near the forward Elevators. first 2 days pretty rough. Rough first day out of Hilo. really calm after that.

We returned Nov. 5th on this cruise and it was great. We are in our mid 30's and did not feel completely out of place. will be posting review when i get laptop back from Dell

Don't know this one .

No whales just schools of dolphins.

  1. How were the tender lines at Lahaina? If you didn't have a ship's tour, how early could you get off the ship?

It was a very short tender ride . 5 minutes at most . Tender lines were busy first thing in the morning .You had to go to a lounge pick up a numbered tender card when you were ready to leave the ship and proceed to the gang way when your number was called and not before .

  1. Did you do anytime or traditional dining? If anytime, what times were good/bad?

We did anytime dining and of course 630-730 pm were the busiest . A pager was given to you if the dining room was full . We waited 15 minutes at most one night .

  1. Was it crowded at the covered pool?

No there never seemed to be a large crowd at the pool . However that might change woth the cooler weather coming.

I'll be awaiting any info you have on the seahorse farm tour, volcano sailing, etc. Thanks for any and all info!

I promise I will post a full review shortly .

Never got around to hear Dave and Feline .

They performed in the Wheelhouse every evening and I thought they were great. They alternated with another trio every evening. The only "band" I had a problem with was the one that played at the pool in the afternoon. I did not think the vocalist could sing. I also just came off the 10/21 cruise. Lectures by Ann Burgess re: Hawaii and Tom Kimmel re: Pearl Harbor were great. Only attended one of the self help doctor's lectures and did not find her too good. There was someone on board doing a wide range of computer classes and also someone doing wheel thrown pottery classes.
