Fun Things to do in Long Beach the Day Before and Day After our Cruise?

My twenty-nine-year-old son and I (I'll turn sixty on the cruise) will be flying into Long Beach on January 6th (cruise leaves on January 7th) and we'll be returning to Long Beach on January 14th (flight leaves the following day). Does anyone have any suggestions what we can do that is fun but not too "exciting" (told my son I would not go on that zip line thingy with him in PV but will ride horses in Mazatlan and look for whales in Cabo).

 

We'll be staying on the Queen Mary the night before and plan to take the tour of the ship . . . has anyone stayed on the Queen Mary? Is there anything else to do in addition to the tour? The night we return from our cruise, we'll be staying at the Coast Hotel and I haven't a clue what to do that day.

Can't help you with Long Beach but are you sailing on the Vision of the

Seas? I am on that sailing with my BF and his 14 year old niece. We're

riding with Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan (for the second time).

The Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific is a nice place to visit if you have time.

I loved the Aqarium too, and they have some good restaurants around there (typical stuff like PF Chang's and such). I hear there is also a Russian Submarine on display somewhere near the Queen Mary. Haven't done that tour, but sounds fun.

 

Of course you can always venture out into Disneyland/California Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm, etc. if you like theme parks. The Aqarium would be my first choice!

Directly across the turning circle in front of the aquarium is a Forest Gump restaurant. Fun with a lot of memorabilia from the movie.

Can't help you with Long Beach but are you sailing on the Vision of the

Seas? I am on that sailing with my BF and his 14 year old niece. We're

riding with Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan (for the second time).

Hi Anita! No, we'll be on Carnival's Pride. When will ya all be riding with Randi's Happy Horses? We're going on Thursday, January 11th. I haven't been on a horse since I was a teenager but I've heard such good things about Randi's horses, I'm really looking forward to it. Tammy

Wow . . . my son would love to check out a Russian Submarine (he's in the Coast Guard . . . though he now flies helicopters . . . he was on a Cutter for a couple years). Looks like the aquarium is pretty popular . . . will definately look into that . . .

I've eaten at a Forest Gump restaurant but it wasn't in Long Beach . . . is it a chain? Darn, I can even picture that restaurant but for the life of me, can't remember where it was!

meet you. I see that you'll be in Puerta Vallarta. You should consider

the Los Verono's canopy zip line tour. It was one of the most

exhilerating things I have ever done. I was scared to death to

do it but am so glad I did. You and your son should check it out.

We loved this itinerary so much we are doing it for the second time.

The name of the resturant is "Bubba Gumps" and it is part of a chain. Hoping to try it in Long Beach this weekend.

the Los Verono's canopy zip line tour. It was one of the most

exhilerating things I have ever done. I was scared to death to

do it but am so glad I did. You and your son should check it out.

Tee Hee! Actually, it's not so much the fear as it is my neck and shoulder. I was in a car accident two years ago and really screwed up my neck and shoulder . . . somthing with my discs that often causes my left arm and hand to go numb. Knock on wood, I've been doing pretty good but don't want to take any chances. However . . . even if that wasn't a problem . . . I think I'd still be nervous . . . :eek:
