Spanky My Posted November 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2006 is the ocean in general terms rougher in LATE Jan or april in the southern caribbean? We are on the Jan 29th 11 day cruise leaving from San Juan. WE have been on the same cruise in april in previous years. Just wanting to hear from the experienced vets on this board what is the difference with respect to sea conditions?
Sue L Posted November 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2006 That is the most beautiful and consistent weather time in the Caribbean. Traditionally,as in before cruising became such a family vacation, late Jan to May was the peak season and therefore the most expensive time because the weather and the sea conditions were the best. Spanky My Posted November 11, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted November 11, 2006 We have taken several cruises in april or may without an ocean problem, But we have NEVER taken a cruise in late jan so we were just wondering if it is a fairly smooth time of year to cruise and nice water to snorkel. Thanks for the response. If any others have a thought on this post let me know....Spanky My
Nurse Daybreak Posted November 11, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2006 We left last Jan 29th on AOS and the water was fantastic. Best cruise ever.
cruisedaze1929 Posted November 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2006 For the most part in Jan the southern carrib seas are fine. The only part that can get rough is if you are heading due North leaving the Panama Canal. It can get nasty sometimes...any place else its bath tub water for the most part. Spanky My Posted November 11, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted November 11, 2006 We love to go snorkeling and do beach type activities while cruising in the caribbean. The water in oregon in the ocean temperature wise is usually under 50 degree's most of the time so we look forward to the warmth and calmness of the southern caribbean area's. We for the first time are up high on the ship instead of the bottom so thus the questions about roughness of the ocean while in transit. My wife sometimes gets a little queazy from the motion of the ocean if it is rough! Sounds like in general terms a nice time to go in late Jan. Thanks again........Spanky My
PA Dutchman Posted November 11, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2006 If you live in the north it's a great time to go.
