bna Posted November 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Hi all, Never cruised before. . . . wondering if it was possible to get some wine in Ft Lauderdale before getting on the boat. We are flying in Snday AM and have transfers through the cruise line. Will we be able to go back out to a wine store after they drop us off or what? Is there a better way? Any suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks. J

It will cost you about $10 each way for the cab. As an option, on my last HAL cruise, a wine package consisting of 6 bottles (chosen from a wine list), could be purchased for about $125. Bequia Posted November 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Total Wine, 1906 Cordova Road, Ft Lauderdale (954) 828-9463. Just off the 17th Street Causeway next to the new Publix. 5 minutes from Port Everglades. This store is amazing. They claim to stock 8,000 wines, 2,000 spirits and 1,000 beers. When you walk in it looks like they carry more. This store is the Home Depot of wine. :p
caviargal Posted November 11, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Are you coming into FLL? If you are, the port is just a few miles away. Transfers from HAL mean you have to wait until the bus fills up, then you are in the midst of all those folks. I personally would book a car service and arrange a short stop for wine on the way. The hassle factor will be a lot less IME.
Bequia Posted November 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Ditch the cruise shuttle and just grab a cab. Tell the cabbie you want to stop at Total Wine on your way to Port Everglades (it's a local landmark, everyone knows where it is). The cab will wait for you while you shop. Publix supermarket is next door in case you need any other last minute items. There's an entrance to the port off of 17th street right by the wine store.
