Our family will be on the Coral in December and are wondering about the Scholarship at Sea Program. Has anyone taken these classes and what did you think of the ones you took? I understand that you sign up on board,is that right? Thanks a lot!!!

Both my DH and I have taken many of these classes, although some may differ from ship to ship. He has taken the Photo Shop classes, an Advanced Xcell(or whatever it's called) and lectures on computer safety. I've taken more artsy classes from painting tee shirts to ceramics to beading. We've also attended many of the lectures offered while on board. Usually you just show up and give them your name and cabin number and the charge will show up on your billing statement.

I've had a good time with these classes - ti's fun to meet people who are of the same mind as you and learn something while you're at it. The ;ast class I took (ceramics), I was sitting with three children from Sweden and a very nice lady from back east. She looked out the the absolutely crystal clear blue sky and the ocean slipping by and sighed, "This is what cruising is all about." She's is absolutely right.

I didn't realize there was a charge associated with any of the classes? We are going in December and looking at the dance classes. Are there only charges for classes that require material (i.e. crafts) or for all of them?

Any ideas on what the charges are?

Thanks guys!

We too have taken many classes and enjoyed them all this is one thing my husband really like about Princess. The instructors have always been very interesting people. This web site is directly from Princess someone was kind enough to post it a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy!

Lyssa - sorry, should have explained. Some of the classes are free, some have small fees, some are a bit more. usually the computer classes cost the most, about $35 pp, but the tee shirt painting class was $10 and included a tee shirt. The cost is posted up front so there's no hidden fee or charge. It's a fun way to spend some sea time and meet similarly inclined folks.

I didn't take any of the classes though I considered it. There was a free introductory photo class that I took. I expected it to "whet your appetite" for the paid class. It was extremely brief (15 minutes though advertised as 1/2 hour) and extremely basic. It actually turned me off from taking the longer paid class. But I am sure the classes you pay for would be better.
