hank56 Posted November 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2006 2 Dec 06 we are cruising with Princess for the first time. We have sailed once with RCI and twice with Disney. I do not intend to compare the cruise lines as apples to oranges. We took this cruise mainly for the itinerary PanamaCanal (Coral). I am sure we will have a great time even if its differ- ent from what we have done before. Myself, DW, DS13, DS12, MIL & SIL are looking forward to the adventure. The only bummer so far is there are no full suites that sleep 4 on this ship, I guess there is some reason just no one at Customer Service knows. Looking forward to the Canal and all else. We sailed the Panama Canal on the Island Princess in 2004, and it was wonderful & educational as well. What cabin situation are you in if no full suites are are offered? Have a wonderful cruise! hank56 Posted November 14, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted November 14, 2006 We booked mini suites way back in feb so got a good price I guess. I pretty much just lurk on cc, it appears too often people assume you are a troll if you do a report that is not lets say glowing. If I chose to do a TR after the cruise I want to be recognized as sincere either way. I should qualify the troll remark, I do not recall anyone being called that on this board sorry if I implied that. Just have patience with us newbies who are somewhat intimidated to post due to low post count. Thank you in advance.
japester Posted November 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 14, 2006 No one will jump you if you post an honest criticism. (Caveat: If you post that same honest criticism, verbatim, across 20 or 30 threads, whether it is relevant or not, well.....) Plus, as with any board, a little common sense goes a long way. For example, if your first post is: I plan on taking my doberman on the cruise. He may be rabid, but the results were borderline, so I figure why make him miss out on the trip? I know dogs aren't allowed, but I'll smuggle him in my suitcase---this is my vacation, and having my dog is the only way for me to relax! He bites most new people on sight and he also has explosive diarrhea.....and he's a smoker. What color leash should I bring? What then follows is a whole lot of people saying "this isn't a good idea," followed by a few kind souls and the original poster responding with, "I only asked what color leash to bring! Don't you lecture me about......" Cruise Critic is endless fun for all ages. :D Jape I pretty much just lurk on cc, it appears too often people assume you are a troll if you do a report that is not lets say glowing. Pam in CA Posted November 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2006 it appears too often people assume you are a troll if you do a report that is not lets say glowing. You don't need to worry about being mistaken for a troll. You're asking questions and doing your research. Generally, a troll is someone who comes on the board for the first time and essentially says, "The cruise sucked and I hated it" without giving any details or what they didn't like about it. Almost every single time, what they didn't like could have been avoided with doing the bare minimum of research. If you're going to buy a car, you do your research and decide what options you want or what models you're interested in. Plunking down thousands for a cruise without knowing what you're paying for is setting yourself up for failure or a poor cruise. One of my former (I'm retired now) partners went on a Princess cruise a few years ago to Alaska. He came back saying he HATED it and would never cruise again. I then learned that what he hated is that he expected all excursions to be included in the cruise price, including helicopter tours. He could have avoided his disappointment if he'd just looked at what he was booking and what was included.

Luckily she made a full recovery after her relaxing vacation, helped along by a few cocktails in Crooner's. Seriously ---- if someone writes a negative review, all of us here are looking for specifics. If you didn't like the food, please tell us why, not just "the food was lousy and everyone else on the ship thought so too." I hope you have a wonderful cruise and come back with glowing reports (we all enjoy the "Live From the..." threads also.) No cruise ship or cruise line is perfect ... or at least I haven't found one yet.
spongerob Posted November 14, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 14, 2006 Don't be afraid to post an honest review. Unfortunately, it's the really extreme reviews that get the attention, and invite some comments that might be equally as energetic. Fair and balanced always goes over well. Welcome aboard! I forget to tell the steward not to bother, since Pookins just attacks most other animals on sight. Well, we got tired of all the complaints about Pookin's cigar in the main theater one evening, so we gave him the room key and sent him back to the cabin. A towel animal was there, and before we know it---he consumated the relationship! Sure, it was funny at first....but a few months later..... Yup. We are now the proud owners of six illegitimate, half-doberman washcloths. I know we aren't supposed to advertise on here, but would anybody like to buy one of these? We have papers on them from the AKC and Bed, Bath & Beyond. Jape

I hope you enjoy your trip to the canal.:) First let me state I can think of very few circumstances that would preclude from enjoying any cruise. I may like things better from cruise to cruise but hey we're on a cruise that in and of itself is great. Don't you agree?

We are first time cruisers too. My grandma who lived until she was 99 years old used to tell me 90% of the things you worry about never happen and the other 10% happen whether you worry or not. That advice has saved me a lot of grief in life. Go and have a wonderful time. -Mo
