Tinknock50 Posted November 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2006 My Diamond Princess coastal cruise ends in Vancouver, so I figured when we get off the ship why not just jump on the Noordam next door and head for Seattle.:) Got an inside guarantee to keep it cheap. This way I can get a look at the Noordam.
Tinknock50 Posted November 14, 2006 Author #2 Share Posted November 14, 2006 oops...left out the "r" on Noordam.....hmmmm......maybe stumbled on some future ship names...the Noodam, the Yesdam, the Maybedam....

Tinknock50 Posted November 15, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted November 15, 2006 Sean,What a great idea! Enjoy your big trip, and your little one. GN Thanks. I guess it's my way of saying "I don't want my cruise to end...get me on another ship now!":D It actually might save me money. Airfare from Vancouver is more expensive than flying from Seattle. I want to fly Southwest to Phoenix and by my estimation I save more money on flights than the one day cruise cost! Inside guarantee on Noordam = $157.22 I might save as much as $100 flying from Seattle.

jtl513 Posted November 15, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2006 Inside guarantee on Noordam = $157.22 It surprises me a little that HAL would let you book an overnighter! Just the processing and shipping of docs must use up a lot of that $157! So if you save $100 on air fare, you get 3 good meals and some entertainment for $57! Pretty slick! :D

Its actually the tail end of a 22 day cruise. All they are offering is guarantees in Categories SC,VF,E,H, K and MM. A cross section of cabin types basically. I wonder if this is the type of cruise HAL might cancel on me? Seems like I recall something like that happening awhile back.
Atomica Posted November 15, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2006 Sean, Kim (kikiwik) and I are on the Noordam 1-nighter as well. We're in a VF Guarantee. We decided to do it because it leaves on a Saturday, and neither one of us has to miss any work. That, and it's a good way to try out the Noordam - it's cheaper than going to a nice hotel for the weekend. Will they cancel it? Unless it's chartered, I don't think so. I believe someone had their one-nighter on the Zaandam pulled on them back in September, but I believe they were compensated for it... I notice that there's also a 1-night Vancouver to Seattle on the Amsterdam. I'd love to do that as well, but it leaves on a Thursday :(

constructiondude Posted November 15, 2006 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2006 Being near a port I've often thought about taking advantage of 1 night repositioning cruises, but are they worth it? All the standing in lines, dealing with the photographers, customs? Isn't it agony having to get off after only a day? Has anyone done the 1 nighters before? I'm not sure I would normally do a one day for the reasons you mentioned. But we will already be at the terminal and 1st in line so not too much trouble.:)

I thought about that too, but at the same time, it makes for a nice weekend getaway. I also see it as a good way to try new ships and lines that you're curious about, but maybe don't want to plunk down the $$ for. For us, it's no more difficult than a weekend trip to Victoria, waiting in ferry lines etc. etc.
