Velour or Terry Juicy for December Carribbean?

Eskwire

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have my terry Juicy Couture sweatsuits for the summer and velour for the winter. Which do I bring to a December caribbean cruise? Velour because it is december or Terry because it is warm? Does the color matter? One velour is a sky blue, they others are royal blue, black and merlot. The terrys are black and seagrass.

I pack for the climate and destination, not the month.

IMO, velour is too heavy for the Caribbean any time of year; I would opt for terry.

I had the same question. I am leaving in two days out of NY and was planning wearing my velour to NY and than the Terry for the Bahamas.

Also to add, I have a long sleeve Juicy Velour dress (its kind of short) would it be okay for a formal night though?

I will try to get a picture up...

Wow, I hope you're very young and slim! IMO the dress is really not formal at all; it would be more suited to casual night as long as it works for your figure.

If you decide to go ahead and wear it, you can dress it up a lot with the right heels and jewelry. I can only dream of wearing something like that! Okay, even if I could I don't think I'd be comfortable in a dress so short--I'd spend all my time pulling it down. And I am from the first generation that wore mini-skirts-ha, that's giving my age away.

I do not think it is at all formal and cannot imagine it without the leggings:eek:. But that is just me and I do not consider myself at all conservative, just tasteful.

I imagine that you will quite underdressed for formal night on any ship in this dress. But that is JMHO.

Eskwire,

I agree with Caviargal. Dress for the climate you're travelling to.

Velour is a winter fabric, terry is a summer fabric.

You're going to the Caribbean - a tropical climate, so bring the terry and leave the velour at home.

Ctcruisers87,

That's a formal dress by any stretch of the imagination.

Have a great cruise!

Jane, I am thinking you meant it is NOT formal....

is my thinking correct?

RIGHT Lois! Thanks!

I typed, the phone rang and I accidently hit "send" and didn't look at my post again.

Thanks for spotting my omission.

I definitely meant the dress ctcruisers87 posted is NOT formal!

Thanks again!

was formal.

I would vote no, not because it is not formal enough but it would be too hot. I went on an NCL cruise in July and the picture you showed was typical of what many did wear on formal night.....(with leggings!) Remember ladies, NCL is formal optional and I would say more did not dress formal, then thoes who did on the formal optional night.

We chose to go to the alternative resturant on formal night. I wore a cocktail dress, my husband a suit. In this resturant most people were dressed formal, although many of the ladies did go with a cocktail dress as opposed to a full length gown.

BTY, if by chance you are cruising on the Crown I have a rather extensive picture review of our cruise. We are on the side of the camp that enjoys formal dress and I was not so sure I would enjoy the more casual cruise, but we had a wonderful time. http://WWW.Justcruisin-SV.com

I know when cruising NCL it is "Freesytle" so what I should have asked was if it was okay and "nice" enough for dinner on a normal night.

But thanks for the imput! I now know NOT to wear it to formal night!:)

Hi, I guess I am just getting old:eek: or you are very young:D

But actually, the more I look at the photo, it looks like a top

to me. But then again, maybe I don't know what

young folks wear these days. I am assuming you are telling us

it is a mini-dress.

Is it nice enough for a normal night? Depends on the person

I guess. Its not my style, so for me, no.

Enjoy your cruise though:)

  • 1 month later...

I've just returned from the QM2 to the Caribbean last week...velour is definitely too hot! It was 93 the day we were in St Kitts...trust me, shorts were too hot! Even on deck it was balmy and pleasant and I never unpacked the light warm up suit I had brought for deck walks. The most I needed in the evening was a light shawl with my gowns. It was 84 in lauderdale the day we left and the lady in front of me in line, in the shade, was wearing a velour set. She looked like she was going to pass out..her face was bright red and sweating and I don't think she had a tank top on as she had the jacket zipped up. It's still the tropics even if it is winter.

Cheers, Penny

5668200....Nope, she was in her 30's and looking very fashionable for some other location. Her husband was in shorts and it was hot...and even hotter in side the pier...total wait in line was over 2 hours!! Everyone was sweating, some more than others depending on how dressed they were. She was definitely overdressed!! Penny

I had no idea you were a fashionista!! I think the dress is too casual for a formal. I don't know what your age is, but it looks like a dress more meant for a gal in her twenties or very young thirties. You'd have to have a very fit body to make the dress look as good as it does in the photo, otherwise it'd look inappropriate. If you wore it without the leggings you'd really have to have excellent legs to not look silly. But only my opinion.

QUOTE=KINGBOBOFTHENORTH]ctcruisers87, in the opinion of a guy, that's an awesome outfit and it looks really cool with the leggings. But I agree with all the ladies, it's too casual for formal night in the dining room. But do take it and wear it one night to the disco on board! BobK/Orlando
