Laurie's Friend Posted November 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2006 We will be on Sun Princess beginning 11/30/06 and I was hoping someone that just came back from the Sun could share the names of the production shows. Thanks! Hi Gloria We are cruising Jan9-07. Looking forward to hearing how the cruise was. We are A723 on the Aloha deck. Where is your room? Anxious to hear what our room and balcony is like. Have fun Karen:)
GloriaF Posted December 15, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted December 15, 2006 Karen - It was one of the best cruises we've taken! The itinerary was wonderful - we thought the southern islands were so different from the ones we've visited on 7 day cruises. Cabin # was Caribe 540. Prepare yourself - the cabins are the smallest I've ever seen, and the balconies are cut from the hull so not as open as on the newer ships. That being said, the cabin is adequate and once you adjust to the smaller square footage, it is just fine. The balcony is much more private on the Sun than any others we've had on the larger ships, except for the afts. We took private, pre-arranged tours with Cosol in St Lucia and Mandoo in Grenada. Those were my favorite islands, and I'm sure in part due to the tours. The islands are lush and beautiful and the people friendly and nice. If you aren't visiting the ports of call boards already, be sure to do so - that is how we learned about the tours and so much info. There were four production shows to our delight! They were: Curtain Up, Tribute, Piano Man and C'est Magnifique! All were very enjoyable and well-done. I had seen all but Piano Man, but enjoyed all of them again in a different theatre with new dancers. It was a wonderful cruise and we emjoyed every minute! I know you will have a fantastic time! Post any other questions you may have, I'll be glad to answer what I can.
Laurie's Friend Posted December 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2006 Thanks GloriaF - sounds like you had an absolutely fabulous time. Do they still have theme nights on the cruises? What was the cost of the excursions that you went on? We are "water rats" so will probably look for beach/snorkeling things to do. I wondered if any of the beaches are accessible by the beach to snorkel on or would it just be the usual sea grass, etc. Do we really need to bring a power bar/extension cord for the room? Is there an outlet in the cabin and in the bathroom? How did you handle wet bathing suits and towels? Was the dining room really cool, thus requiring a sweater? Is the ship cool in the evenings, while outside? Sorry - I have a ton of questions, but these are just some. I have been cruising the board so there are so many different opinions. Thought yours would be the most accurate, as you just came from there. Were the seas rough? Have a nice Christmas and thanks for your insight. GloriaF Posted December 15, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted December 15, 2006 Thanks GloriaF - sounds like you had an absolutely fabulous time. Do they still have theme nights on the cruises? Island Night Party up on the pool decks - I noticed some pax dressed 'islandy'. 50's-60's Sock Hop - began at 10:30 in the nightclub & the staff were dressed in cheerleader outfits' date=' etc. There were 2 formal nights. [b']What was the cost of the excursions that you went on?[/b] $45pp and both included time on the beach to snorkel or whatever. In St Lucia we went to the beach between the Pitons at the Jalousie (Hilton) hotel - lovely and OK snorkeling! We are "water rats" so will probably look for beach/snorkeling things to do. I wondered if any of the beaches are accessible by the beach to snorkel on or would it just be the usual sea grass, etc. We enjoy snorkeling, too, and had to make a decision on what to do. In Grenada, you can take a water taxi from the port to Grand Anse Beach, which is lovely, but the snorkeling wasn't good (that is where our tour ended up). In Martinique, take the ferry close to the port to Pointe du Bout to the beach and nice little town. We didn't take snorkel gear with us then and saw people snorkeling. The beach wasn't especially impressive, though. We had a language issue in Martinique, but being from Ontario you will be fine. In St Thomas, snorkeling was good last year at Sapphire Beach, or take the ferry or a tour to St Johns Trunk Bay for good snorkeling. Do we really need to bring a power bar/extension cord for the room? Is there an outlet in the cabin and in the bathroom? It depends on how much you need to plug in and/or charge as to whether you need extra outlets. We got by with the one at the vanity and one under the wall shelf just outside the bathroom. The only outlet in the bathroom was for shavers. The hair dryer is attached to the wall at the vanity and is OK but not that strong. How did you handle wet bathing suits and towels? I take a couple of those plastic hooks with clothespins attached for our bathing suits, and put them out on the balcony to dry. There is a retractable clothesline in the shower also. Wet towels aren't an issue as the ship provides beach towels to take ashore, then just toss them on the floor for the steward to replace. Was the dining room really cool, thus requiring a sweater? Many parts of the ship were over-air-conditioned and required a wrap, the dining rooms and all the public areas. We turned our a/c all the way up on "warmer" and kept our balcony door open most nights. The fresh air and the sound of the sea is heavenly. Is the ship cool in the evenings, while outside? The seas were rough for the first 2 sea days with strong winds, and the last couple of days - we were not able to go to Princess Cays the last day because the anchor would not hold against the gale force winds. In the southern part of the Caribbean, the nights were balmy but further north it was sometimes chilly. We had unusual weather, I think. Sorry - I have a ton of questions, but these are just some. I have been cruising the board so there are so many different opinions. Thought yours would be the most accurate, as you just came from there. Were the seas rough? Have a nice Christmas and thanks for your insight. Karen, I figured the best way to be sure I covered everything was to do it is a quote, as you can see above. I enjoyed answering the questions - it gave me an opportunity to replay the memories. Thanks for the good wishes and I hope you have a merry Christmas also and a wonderful cruise! Karen:) I guess I have some things to learn about using the "quote" button, but you get the idea, I'm sure. Gloria
