Umbarger Posted November 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2006 I just returned from a B2B on the Crown Princess. I take my disabled 69 year old mom on a cruise every year. She has cruised Princess, NCL and Carnival. We had a wonderful time. I asked her what cruise she would like next year. She said she didnt care where but to make sure it was on Carnival. :D We just did not care for all the additional charges for things that are included on Carnival. Princess is good, however, Carnival is our favorite. I talked openly to other pax on the Crown about all the cruise lines. Of course there were the people who hate Carnival but have never even been on a Carnival cruise. The biggest negative for Carnival by others was the number of children on board and the class of people it attracted. Since I cruise Princess and Carnival what class of people does that make me?
rvrgirl Posted November 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2006 So your question is what:confused:
Cotton Posted November 18, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2006 Umbarger - Good for your mom!:) Just shows that we of senior status can have a great time on Carnival. About those other folks who have never sailed on a Carnival ship ... they have no idea what they're missing! Too bad they put something down they've never tried just because of hearsay. Their loss. Too many kids? Yep, if they choose to cruise when schools are not in session. Lower class of people? That's just snobbery; pay them no mind. Doesn't apply to any of us on this board, that's for sure. Just book your mom that next Carnival cruise, and make her happy!:D
hstrybuf Posted November 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 18, 2006 Good question Umbarger! I too cruise both Carnival and Princess. We know you're going to find all kinds on both lines, but hopefully we're the good kind and have enough class not to act like snobs. ;) Do you usually book her in an inside, balcony or something else? Has she ever booked a balcony and not been able to access it if she uses a wheelchair? This happened to one lady on our last cruise. They didn't tell her she wouldn't be able to get out on her balcony in her wheelchair. She was mad! Anyway, good for Mom! I hope she has a great cruise! yearnin4cruisin Posted November 18, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2006 It just makes you a person who likes two cruise lines! There are times of the year when there are less children on Carnival, but I've never found the children to be a problem. Right after school starts is a good time to go. Some itineraries are supposed to have less children as well, like Alaska.

Has she ever booked a balcony and not been able to access it if she uses a wheelchair? This happened to one lady on our last cruise. They didn't tell her she wouldn't be able to get out on her balcony in her wheelchair. She was mad! We have booked a outside and an inside before. We have not been lucky enough to get a handicapped balcony room yet. We have cruised in a regular balcony room when my mom was still able to walk. She loved it. I couldn't get her in the room. She lived out on that balcony! :D I can understand this ladies disappointment. My mom would have been devastated. We generally don't complain about lack of access. Its just a fact of life for us. We found a few areas on the ship inaccessible. The main problem is lack of automatic doors. When I am with my mom I can open all the doors for her. However, when she is alone she has a heck of a time.
mrdood Posted November 18, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2006 So your question is what:confused: RHETORICAL Main Entry: rhe·tor·i·cal Pronunciation: ri-'tor-i-k&l, -'tär- Variant(s): also rhe·tor·ic /ri-'tor-ik, -'tär-/ Function: adjective 1 a : of, relating to, or concerned with rhetoric b : employed for rhetorical effect; especially : asked merely for effect with no answer expected <a rhetorical question> ...and also a question is not required per the guidelines to post on this site, a more legitimate question is: What was your point? Sashalanda Posted November 18, 2006 #10 Share Posted November 18, 2006 As a person who is also disabled, I love carnival. I have heard many "snobby" comments from ppl who have sailed the others to the point, those ships are not for me. I was ppl who aren't judgemental, who are vacationing to have fun. I may not be able to join in on that fun but I do enjoy watching them very much. I have to say, carnival personnel went way out of their way to be very helpful and kind to me. This next one we are taking our sons and hoping they fall in love with cruising too. They are 18 and 13 :D . I enjoy watching the kids playing etc. Noisey kids don't bother me at all until I am ready for sleep lol. But now, imagine if one threw food at me, I just might return that throw with some squishy jello rofl. I hope to see you and your mom on one of my cruises :)

I travel with a sister with Disabilities. I can not praise Carnival crew enough for all the help they have given me on her 4 cruises with Carnival. Yes we run into obstacles. But we work around them. She also is limited on mobility. But that does not stop her from watching the activities and she and I enjoy watching people participating in activities that they would never do in their daily life. We have met some rude people who chose to stare at her. I guess they are the snobs. We have met several people who have gone the extra steps to sit and talk with her. Those are the people you remember.

westernmom Posted November 20, 2006 #25 Share Posted November 20, 2006 Having a beautiful daughter with cerebral palsy, I LOVE to travel with her! Not only is she fun but we always get "special considerations" - such as moved up to the front of the lines! I'm sure hoping she will be able to go with us on our next cruise. Though the years, we have learned how to deal with people who stare. Normally we just smile back at them. But, one time I offered to dump my milkshake on a young man's head.........
