Covered vs. Uncovered Balconies

Hello fellow cruisers

We are cruising Jan9-07 on the Sun. Does anyone know if the Aloha deck aft(rear) starboard (right side) dbl's with balconies are private, or do they have another balcony looking down on us? I have read that some are not private at all. Also, some are covered and some are not. I could not find the answer on the internet. Anyone know?

Cheers

The Aloha deck is covered and no you do not have any cabins above you to look down. The Dolphin deck is usually the ones that are uncovered. The Baja deck is covered, the Caribe are partially covered and uncovered and the Emerald deck is covered.

Wow - thanks for the quick reply.

Can anyone give me a review of their opinion on the A700 group of rooms on the Sun. 183 sq ft seems awfully small. Is the shower really small? What size would the balcony be? Any other info would really be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

We have been on the Sun Class many, many times.

The Sun, the Sea and the Dawn all have very private balconies that are inside the hull. On Aloha deck you have a larger cut-out than on Caribe deck. Baja also has the larger cut-outs.

Every balcony cabin on the Sun is exactly the same as any other and all balconies are the exact same size. The room is small, but quite adequate. The shower is small, but we found it adequate when we had one. When we were last in a balcony cabin (we've since graduated to mini-suites and suites) we had enough closet space. Of course, in those days we traveled relatively lightly.

If you are in the 700 block of rooms on the Sun on Aloha deck, you will find that you have a very special spot. There is an aft deck with loungers on it just steps from your room where you can sit and watch the wake of the ship. Go up one flight and you are at the spa and the aft pool and whirlpools. Go up another flight and you are at the aft bar, which, as I recall, also has a whirlpool near it.

It is a relatively long walk to the Horizon Court buffet dining room, but it will give you a chance to walk off all of the extra calories you will be ingesting.

Have a marvelous time!

Karen, I agree with Roberta. The balconies on Aloha deck towards the aft are a great location. http://www.princess.com/ships/cp/deck/cp_aloha_index.html

You can see the open deck space on the deck plan. Some of the loungers are under cover and in the shade and some are in the sun. Most passengers don't even know this area exists and we never once had a problem finding a lounger for each of us. The bar staff comes down to take drink orders, too. :)

The negatives to cabins in this area is that the buffet on the Sun-class ships is far forward so if you go to the buffet, you will walk most of the length of the ship. We wound up going to the dining room for breakfast almost every day. Also, the laundry room is close to the forward elevators and is a hike if you're doing laundry. It's very small with only 2 washers and dryers.

As Toto said, the balconies on the Sun-class ships are much more private than on the Grand-class ships. They're "cut out" from the side of the ship with real sides rather than open with dividers. Someone in the balcony next door will have a hard time seeing in, even by accident.

The closets on the Sun-class ships are not the open areas near the bathroom like on the Grand-class ships but "wardrobes." There are three doors for access and there are poles high enough for dresses, and doubled for shirts and pants. There's plenty of room for clothes but not enough to store your luggage as you can on the Grand-class ships.

We havent recd.Luggage tags, cruise info pkg. yet, have you?
You'll receive your luggage tags with your pre-cruise package. The package will include the tags, a tour brochure and sign-up form, Cruise Answer Book, and miscellaneous pamphlets (such as ordering a tux). When you get your package, make sure you take everything[/] out of the envelope: the tags are loose and can slip to the bottom. I received my package just before final payment.

Is there access to the aft outdoor area on the Caribe deck on the Sea/Sun/ Dawn for anyone other than those booked into the aft cabins?

We are booked into C741 on the Sea in a few weeks, and looking at the deck plan, can't tell if we would be able to get out there to observe the ship's wake.

Those are all aft balonies on Caribe, I believe. The open public aft deck area on the Sea/Sun/Dawn is on Aloha deck. http://www.princess.com/ships/cp/deck/cp_aloha_index.html

Thanks Pam. It looked like there was an open area in the middle between the balconies, but I was thinking it might be kept inaccesible (sp??) to maintain privacy for those balconies back there.

Oh well, not a big deal. We can always go up to the Aloha deck or down to the Promenade level if we really want to see the wake.

Cruise Staterooms

has a lot of pictures of the staterooms, including exterior shots of the decks with balconies. You may have to join that website, I think the lifelong cost is $12 or less.
