Upgrade Question.....

We are Platinum Card Members who did not book directly thru Carnival. Can we get an upgrade?

Do I have to call Carnival and let them know I'm interested, does my travel agent do it for me, or what?

Is it even possible to get an upgrade without directly booking thru Carnival?

Please tell me about your upgrade stories and how.... Thnx..

It doesn't matter who you are booked with... if you booked a guarantee, you have a chance to be upgraded (typically, this is just inside to inside, ov to ov, bl to bl, etc but on a higher deck)... you don't need to tell anyone, by booking a guarantee you have a chance to be upgraded. If you definitely want an upgrade, you will need to pay for it.

Lainey.....you could possibly get an upgrade no matter who you booked with. However, in your case, no way!!!:p

Elaine,

First, you have to deal with your travel agent as they own your booking. While you have them on the phone, get them to check to see if the price for your cruise has dropped. Sometimes you can get a refund, an OBC and/or cabin upgrade.

Second, Platinum status does not get you anything as far as cabin assignment other than past guest discount.

Third, did you book a GTY cabin or an assigned cabin. If a GTY, there is a chance for an upgrade. If assigned, probably not unless it is a handi-capped cabin and it is needed for someone with a need.

Just wanted to mention that I have only been upgraded when I booked a specific cabin, never a guarantee. And one upgrade was from OV to balcony with a TA. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.

that is more rare, but it does happen... A TA is supposed to let you know when they upgrade you from a specific cabin, but it sounds like that doesn't always happen... it's definitely much more common to be upgraded with a guarantee... if you book a specific cabin and want an upgrade, you can tell them that you want one, but I believe the priority will go to those that booked guarantees, and then specific cabins. You'd have alot more people ticked off if upgrading people in specific cabins was common, most people that book specific cabins do so for a reason... If you want to be upgraded, it doesn't make sense to me, not to book a GUAR.
