What to do at Puerto Santo Tomas? SUN

We are going cruising on the SUN 3/18/07. Hard to find any info on the stop in guatamala, Puerto Santo Tomas de Sastilla. Any past Sun cruisers have any ideas? Beach, excursions, tours? Any help appreciated. :)

Understand your frustration on this topic, we sailed out of Miami last Feb and it took awhile to find out where the heck it was, let alone excursions.

If you check the Excursions - Port of Call area on the main page you'll see Caribbean "Other" Lots of info there. We did the Mayan Ruins in Quinigra

Long trip but beautiful site. Have fun - we certainly did.

We did this itinerary from Miami in March and did the Mayan ruins also, but there are several options. If you get back early, stop at the building near the end of the dock where they have food, drink, shopping, and entertainment. And be sure you are looking dockside as you leave--there is a nice send off.

Check this thread - LOTS of good info:

When we were on the Sun, we did the Amatique Resort excursion. I think it would be particularly good for people with small children or people who just want to relax by a nice pool for the day.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no really great ocean beaches at this port.

The beach at Amatique Bay was OK but the ocean water was not at all appealing (kind of murky).

The pool was lovely - with a very good children's pool complete with pirate ship and there were water slides.

I think the real beauty in this port is supposed to be the rio dolce national park (including the river and surrounding rain forest), not the ocean. We're going the first week of January, so I'll let you know when we get back.
