Dave85 Posted January 9, 2007 Author #27 Share Posted January 9, 2007 Any idea what happened to the guy who punched somebody??? Haven't heard of that before....they throw him off I hope?...no reason for doing that. Yeah great question... while I don't know for sure, I can say that I didn't see that guy again. I hope he was thrown off. I actually do know of two people that were thrown off in Nassau, I had actually met them. They were a couple of belligerent out of control drunks who were rowdy 24/7 and harassed a good number of woman, which obviously was not tolerated. What I heard (from numerous sources) was that Captain MacDonald had warned them 3 times, and eventually just got fed up when they continued their behavior and kicked them off in Nassau. It was a little odd that they chose to kick them off then, because Nassau was the very last day of the cruise. I guess RCI milked as much alcohol money as they could out of those clowns  ... but I do admire a Captain who's willing to throw people off the ship who repeatedly show little or no regard for their fellow guests. One other thing: I just read Joe's (Enchantment04) review and it reminded me about that medical emergency that sent us back to St. Thomas. I'd never seen anything like it. We were two hours out to sea after St. Thomas and the Captain came on and said we'd have to go back. I hope the elderly man that was taken off ended up okay, it was announced the next day that he was stable so that was at least positive news. I must say though, sailing back into and out of St. Thomas at night was nothing short of SPECTACULAR. I'd never seen anything like it and probably never will again. I wish they'd consider a scheduled night time departure from there! Those who missed that night sailaway (which was most of the ship) really missed out. critterchick Posted January 9, 2007 #29 Share Posted January 9, 2007 Oh, and Marty Allen was one of the comedy acts, but I can't remember whether he was on the 6 or the 8 night itinerary.
paylady Posted January 13, 2007 #30 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Dave: Thanks for the review. Did the ship dock directly in Old San Juan? I know the AOS leaves from a different port and was hoping we would dock right in Old San Juan so we could just walk. Thanks.
DJ1VIKES Posted January 13, 2007 #31 Share Posted January 13, 2007 We were at table 448, right next to yours. Same Enrico. I agree with everything you said about him. Dave

jo1168 Posted January 13, 2007 #33 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks for the great info on Jewel...we leave on Feb 24. I have one questions...my mom's birthday is while we are on the cruise and we want to book dinner in either Chops or Portifino's. We would like to do it on her birthday, which is on the Wednesday but depending on what the food theme is in the dinner room that night, we may opt for a different night. From your earlier post, I belive it is Country & Western night but do you remember what kind of meal was served in the main dining room?
jo1168 Posted January 13, 2007 #34 Share Posted January 13, 2007 OK...I lied..I have one more question...Are these tables...447 and 448...big enough for 10 people?

Dave85 Posted January 13, 2007 Author #36 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Jo: Unfortunately I don't recall exactly what was served on Country/Western Night. As for the tables though, most of them in that lower center section were for 8 people, except for an exceptionally long one that was right next to us. I'm assuming the other Dave's table (DJ1) was the same size... unless he was at that long table. I forget which direction the numbers went. Paylady: Yep, right into Old San Juan. 5 ships were in port that day (all docked in Old SJ) making it fairly hectic. We shared a pier with the Navigator. When I saw the 5th ship (Carnival Triumph) rolling in, I hopped back on the Jewel. Too crowded. Terri: For once I didn't really notice any standout bartenders. There were some standout spots though that were always hopping. The Schooner Bar at night was certainly one of them, more mature crowd there. The casino was always hopping, except if smoke bothers you the Casino Bar is a rough spot because it was extremely smokey in there. If you don't mind smoke then it shouldn't be a problem. The Vortex was much underused IMO, as it's a really unique revolving bar! Some nights it was hopping, some not. Bartenders were very good across the board. Didn't have a problem with a single one. russnleanne Posted January 13, 2007 #37 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks for the review and for answering questions. Can you remember if there were certain nights in the dining room that were themed...such as International, Italian, American etc? thanks!
Beth & Rob Posted January 13, 2007 #38 Share Posted January 13, 2007 I saw your post regarding the Liberty vs the Jewel. Are you talking the Carnival Liberty? I just booked an 8 day on the Jewel for 2/23/08. The reason (besides loving the Radiance and taking the Brilliance in Oct) was the timing of port for Puerto Rico. Carnival Liberty docked 5PM to midnight, whereas Jewel docked during the day.
Dave85 Posted January 13, 2007 Author #39 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks for the review and for answering questions. Can you remember if there were certain nights in the dining room that were themed...such as International, Italian, American etc? thanks! Night 3 was Caribbean Night and Nights 2 and 7 were formal. I don't recall a dedicated International or American night. There was an Italian night.. I can't find the exact night in the information I brought home from the ship, but it was somewhere in the middle of the cruise... night 4, 5 or 6. Wish I could be more helpful... If I had to guess I'd say it was 4 or 5.

QM2 Cruiser Posted January 14, 2007 #44 Share Posted January 14, 2007 Hi. After reading the threads about shipboard norovirus, I have become very paranoid about contracting the horrible illness. Were there any reports of norovirus on your sailing of Jewel of the Seas? Did the Jewel have alcohol based sanitizer stations located in the Winjammer and in the dining room? My family and I will be on a do not touch anything policy during our cruise in April, armed with plenty of lysol products, surgical hand scrub and plastic gloves. Thanks. They had these sanitizers everywhere there was food to be had! No one on our sailing had the virus that I was aware of. Just wash your hands before you put anything near your face. To be honest, you should worry more about getting the flu when you go to the grocery store, mall, etc. Just use common sense and you will have a great cruise! Don't worry, be happy! Dave85 Posted January 16, 2007 Author #47 Share Posted January 16, 2007 Terri, A standout bartender would be Pavilin. He usually worked in the casino (main section). Best drinks, most friendly Ahh yes! I actually had drinks almost every night from Pavilin. He was very friendly and an excellent bartender. He was at the main casino bar... pay him a visit if he's still there! The hand sanitizers were actually dissappointing. They had a number of them surrounding the Windjammer and had them by the main dining room as well, but for whatever reason the ones by the Windjammer were not working very well! Almost all of them had some sort of issue. No big deal, it just took a little extra effort and patience to make sure enough of the liquid actually made it to my hands. My major complaint in that regard is that there were no hand sanitizers anywhere near the casino... on the Brilliance they were *everywhere*, and they all worked like a charm. The casino is arguably the most germy place on the ship, with people touching chips and buttons, and I was fairly disgusted that they didnj't have any sanitizer there other than individually wrapped hand wipes that you could pick up at the window if you (a) knew they were there and (b) chose to make the effort to unwrap, use, and discard them. I don't remember if I mentioned anything about that in my initial review, but that's an area for improvement on the Jewel. The Brilliance had them beat there.
