Galveston/Tremont during Mardi Gras 2007 -- problems?

Just realized our Feb. 10 Grand Princess cruise from Galveston will leave in the midst of Mardi Gras. We have a room at the Tremont (will be driving down from Dallas) for Friday, Feb. 9. We will plan to get there early afternoon.

Tremont usually has cruisers take their cars to the Galvez the morning of the cruise and shuttle back to the pier. I am thinking we should take our car over on Friday (we can hang out at the Strand and don't really need the car) and just walk to the pier. Does this make more sense?

Also, should we worry about finding a place for dinner? Will they take reservations? Guess the backup could be room service, but that seems a shame.

Thanks -- know Galveston well (lived there as a child) but don't know it during Mardi Gras.
