Probably because that's where all the major airlines fly into. Hobby is where Southwest Airlines flys into. I don't know who else uses it.

American and United also fly into Hobby. Continental and American fly into Intercontinental. Southwest is the major airline that goes from Hobby. Hobby is definitely closer as it is right off of the Gulf Freeway which takes you right to Galveston.

Hobby is closer to the terminal, it's about a 30 minute drive or less from Hobby airport. From Hobby airport you would get on I-45 South and according on how fast you drive you can be there within 30 minutes or less. Whereas from Bush Intercontinental Airport it will take approx. 1 1/2 more or less. Hope this helps!

We are planning to do this excursion in August. Did you wear shorts or pants? What about food? Was lunch during your excursion? Can't wait to do this excursion. Did you book it on the ship or did you book it on line?

We wore shorts and tennis shoes. I think most people did the same. Lunch was not included. However, they do have a snack stand at the end that you can get some stuff. my dh had some jerk chicken, and said it was great. We booked through the ship. i was told that is the only way to book this excursion. it was great!!!!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!

Too funny! :p I'm not much of a Tony Stewart fan myself.

Carnivals Website says to fly into George Bush's airport- but ive seen many people saying they fly into Hobby airport? Which one is closer??

hobby is closest. carnival does not provide transportation from hobby to the pier...however, we rented a car, one way through enterprise and dropped it off about 5 minutes away and they shuttled us. then we booked with galveston limo for a shuttle ride to hobby (HOU) and they were cheaper than carnivals trip to bush. they waited for us as we were the last color called to get off the ship. i would use them again. we actually got a rental cheaper than the price of our one way shuttle.

hope that helps.

Hello all..thanks for all the great information. We're sailing on the Conquest June 24th. Wanted to know if alcholic drinks are free while gambling in the casino. Also, any recommendations on who to book the snorkeling/stingray excursion with in Cayman? Private or Carnival.

Thanks!

You get to pay for your drinks, while you donate your money.

We used Captain Bryan in Cayman. He has a 50' catamaran. We motored out and sailed back. There were only about 30 of us, with three crew members. It was wonderful, I highly recommend them. Only $35 each.

Have fun!!

The one, and only time that I know of, that you get FREE DRINKS, is at the past guest party. The Past guest party will only be held if your on a cruise that is i think 5 days or longer ?

And I'm told you can order any drinks there that you wanted instead of taking what they give you.

No in the casino. Yes at 'past guest' and 'Captains reception' .

I recommend Nativeway for tours in Grand Cayman. Used them many times and always excellent service.

What exactly is "jerked" chicken ????

My boyfriend has been a chef in a Jamaican kitchen for about 8 years; they make awesome jerk chicken. Everyone has their own recipe, you know: when we went to Aqua Sol in Montego Bay their jerk sauce was like an orange glaze. But at my boyfriend's restaurant, it's a very dark, thin marinade, not a glaze: can't give you the whole recipe, but it uses spices like onion, allspice, thyme, cinnamon, nutmeg, and scallions.

Anyone ever stay at the Harbor House ? Is it a nice place, any local attractions bars/restaurants nearby in "walking" distance ??

Harbor is nice and generally a very quiet hotel. It is near the Strand area...lotsa shops/resturants. Right next door to the Harbor House is Willie Gs resturant, the tall ship Elissa for tours, the Galveston 1900 storm history...... go to www.galeston.com for additional info

There are many other resturants in the Strand area.....menus can be seen on galveston.com

Has anyone had a balcony cabin on the Upper Deck(deck 6) of the Conquest?? I booked a guarantee balcony for our cruise in Sept. and now I'm getting a little nervous about the guarantee part. I usually book cabins on decks that have cabins on the decks directly above and below the deck I'm staying on. The Promenade Deck (deck 5), right below the Upper deck has the show lounge, casino, shops and bars on it. Should I upgrade to a higher deck?? I got I great deal on the guarantee balcony and I'm afraid that the price difference to upgrade is going to alot.

Postagrrl---we stayed on the Uppper Deck-Midship above the Conquest in Feb 2006 and never heard the noise from the Casino. Our room in Feb 2008 will be somewhat above the Theatre-but closer to the front. I dont expect it to be a problem. And we are early nighters, so if there had been a noise problem--i think we would have heard it. I also think the 7th deck is safe too. If you were to get a room on the 8th floor underneath the pool/stage/cafertia area i think you would have problem with noise. But you never know. Hope that helps. Tami

Kendik,

We are also sailing on June 24th.

Other posters,

In Jamacia and Grand Cayman what hot spot bars are there(Senor Frogs, Hard Rock etc) and are they walking distance from the pier as we will have a couple of hours to kill before and after our excursions. Also, anyone know of a repitable tanzanite jeweler in Grand Cayman.

My husband and I will be cruising on the Conquest May 20. Can anyone tell me what juices are available? Thanks.

If you mean for breakfast: At the buffet they have orange and guava in the dispensers. In the dining room they have just about anything you want. The tomato is good, usually served with lemon.

If you mean at the bar, just about everything.

If your looking for a mixer during the day, the fruit punch is good.

Montego Bay has a Margaritaville. You'll have to take a taxi. Georgetown has a Hard Rock Cafe and a Margaritaville, both within walking distance.
