elliair Posted August 6, 2004 #1 Posted August 6, 2004 Only on Carnival! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,128066,00.html
srphnx Posted August 6, 2004 #2 Posted August 6, 2004 I read that early this morning... I am wondering if I can adapt that to "abandon buffet" at least in front of me.
cnmiranda Posted August 6, 2004 #3 Posted August 6, 2004 There was a thread about this on Carnival's boards. It's really not funny at all as someone could have panicked and jumped overboard. The RUMOR was that it was a drunk bunch of teenagers, and from what I've read they were arrested as they should have been. I'm sure this will be prosecuted as a "terrorist threat". Carnival should be thanking the stars above that nothing serious happened. Makes you wonder about a ship's security.
elliair Posted August 6, 2004 Author #4 Posted August 6, 2004 This prank I agree was NOT funny. I'd be pretty upset if this happened to me. Anything can happen on a cruise, this prank was over the top!
cnmiranda Posted August 6, 2004 #6 Posted August 6, 2004 There's also an article on CC's home page regarding the incident. Looks like they did not catch the guilty party. Thank goodness the jerk(s) that did this did not keep repeating the message.
JanetMarie Posted August 6, 2004 #7 Posted August 6, 2004 What is the motivation behind this? What are these people looking for? Ugh...

I bet there were a number of folks from New York or DC on the ship that came close to jumping. I know I would have had my lifejacket on. Why did it take so long for the captain to start to calm everyone down - did they have to bring him back aboard????
karfest Posted August 6, 2004 #9 Posted August 6, 2004 I am really surprised at the reaction on the Carnival board to this incident. Most of them laughed it off as just a prank and can't believe people are upset. I consider a prank to be locking all the bathroom stalls or vaseline on the doorknobs, but ordering an abandon ship during the night is just plain stupid and scary. They have had lots of threads pulled already on this topic so it must be getting quite heated. Remember the RCI guest who had the fake bomb threat? I believe she is spending some time cooling off in jail.
