Diving Grand Cayman

Can anyone recommend a good diving (scuba) operator in Grand Cayman. My husband will be newly certified and I will have just taken a refresher prior to our 5/19 Liberty cruise, so we don't want to book with the ship and end up on a large group. We'd like a operator that specializes in small groups. Any info would be greatly appreciated. :D

You didn't say if you wanted to do a shore dive or boat dive? :)

If you want a shore dive, Eden Rock is within walking distance and I have done the shore dive before, it was fantastic and would probably be a good first dive for you husband...

I've never done a boat dive with Eden Rock, but I have a 2 tank scheduled with them in 2 weeks!!! Can't wait, I can give you a review when I get back if you'd like...

There are two nearby dive shops for Eden Rock. They are http://www.edenrockdive.com and http://abanksdivers.com.ky/ You can rent tanks/weights, a full set of gear, and even a guide if you want to be escorted on the dive.

We booked with our ship for our first dive in Grand Cayman, as it was our first visit there. Carnival uses Don Foster. They are a great operation. We enjoyed the diving with them so much, that we decided to stay with them for our next cruise at the end of the month. The group of actual scuba certified divers was not that large. When we left the pier all the snorkelers, and people who had signed up for beginner scuba were with us, but on our boat for the dives were only the certified divers. It couldn't have been more than 8. Don Foster included all the gear you wanted or needed, a nice dive shop, professional operators. Can't say enough good things about them. Usually scuba diving is one of the smallest groups on a ship sponsored shore excursion. On our cenote dive in Cozumel last year, it was our group of 4 only.

Volive & bruce-r - We will be in G.C. on the Carnival Valor at the end of May. Our 3 boys have never been so we're planning an early morning 1 stop snorkel trip to the Stingrays with Captain Marvins. We feel like it's a must see for the kids. We are supposed to return by 10:30 and our ship sails at 4pm. Then we plan to walk to Eden Rock and do a two tank dive. It will be our boys' first ocean (referral) dives. I have been reading some horror stories from previous Valor passengers about the tenders, causing me some concern about how this will work out. I am wondering if I should pre-book the dives with deposit, etc., or just walk down and show up and hope for the best, so I don't have to worry if we have time issues. Any first hand opinions on this?

By the way, Stuart Freeman of Eden Rock is extremely responsive to e-mails.

I'm also looking for a dive shop in Cayman to do PADI certification dives while on our cruise. Any other recommendations or advice from anyone who has done certification referral dives in Cayman?

Thanks!

We spent a week on the East End and I did my very first dives through them. Excellent outfit...cannot recommend them enough. We are going back in February and I hope to get my certification through them. The only drawback is that they are on the East End which is a good bit away from where the cruise ships dock. But I would email them and see if they offer any type of shuttle boat service. Definitley would be quicker by water than the roads. http://www.oceanfrontiers.com/

There was a guy there named Bret that we just loved. Good luck!
