Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted August 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2004 If I want to book a European cruise for next June, am I better off doing so while on board my October Golden cruise? I know that you only have to then put down $100 per person, but how are the prices then?
HighRoller Posted August 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2004 Yes I would because you can do the FCC you are referring to and if the price doesn't fall to the price near what you want to pay just cancel without penalty and without loosing your FCC OR on the other hand you could do an open booking and play the wait and see game in the hopes of catching a Flash Promotion or Regional Promotion within the 60-30 prior to sailing....it's a crap shoot either way but remember you want to travel in a peak for European Cruise on a specific ship which does that itineary 2 times in June. Cruisin' George Posted August 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2004 You will also get some onboard credits by booking onboard. You can also assign your booking to your TA and get whatever discounts they offer. Hard to beat.
sue d. miller Posted August 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2004 Absolutely book on board. It will only cost you the $100pp instad of $250pp now, and you won't get the on board credits either. I am waiting to book onboard in October too. Then you can start looking around for the best prices, and service!! You may not have a lot of leeway in pricing anyway, as there are only 2 to choose from, but you can start looking now, and get your best pricing available, and as soon as you get home from your cruise, you will know just where to transfer your booking. :)
KAJOKG Posted August 7, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2004 I like doing the open booking. As stated, deposit is only $100 ea. and ship board credit is based on the amount you eventually pay for the cruise you choose. We booked in May for an Oct. cruise, and received a reduction in the original rate two months after we booked. You are entitled to reduced fares if you or your TA find them even if you have done the on board open booking. It's a good deal/
psupa Posted August 8, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2004 I've never done this, but plan on doing so next month on our cruise. I have a few questions and I know those of you who have done this can help me. I know you can leave the booking open and it's good for 4 years. 1. If I book a future cruise, but don't know what cruise I want to take, do you still get onboard credit? 2. If you know the cruise you want to book, does Princess give you a price for the cruise, even if you transfer to your TA? I know my TA could probably do better than the price offered on-board. If TA price is better can you get that price? 3. I'm thinking about doing the Star Princess Oct 05 and book this cruise onboard, am I locked into the price offered on board? sue d. miller Posted August 8, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 8, 2004 1.Yes you still get the credit. 2. When you do an open booking, there is no price, because you have no ship, no date.. Wait until you get home to check on pricing to get the best deal. All offers, promos, cabin credits from a TA are applicable with the booking. 3. Don't book a particular cruise on board. just the open booking. You know what you want, you just want to find the best price.
psupa Posted August 8, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 8, 2004 Thanks Sue. Like I said I'm thinking about the Star Princess next year but not sure. So what I'll do is book onboard as an open booking (maybe I'll book 2), transfer the bookings to my TA, and then do some searching until I find what we want. That's the fun part. At least I'll have something to look forward to and won't suffer badly from PCD. DH says he'll never grow up. This cruise we will celebrate his 50th birthday. Looking forward to it. Thanks again for your help.

cactusrose Posted August 8, 2004 #15 Share Posted August 8, 2004 PSUPA, I booked a praticular cruise while on board last year and then transferred it to the TA that gave me the best price. You are not locked in to the Princess pricing. The reason I booked the cruise onboard was to lock in the cabin. I"m going to do the same in November while on the Diamond.
