Jesse James is the Legend.

Has anyone stayed in the the Oceanview Cabins (5A) on the Main Deck. They say they have French Doors with obstructed views. I know they are probably looking at the life boats. BUT - can you walk out the doors onto some sort of deck or balcony? Or ... are they just bigger "windows"?

I'm planning the third family cruise (DW and In Laws) which will likely be on the Legend. I have a few questions, and you folks here were extremely helpful in planning my first two cruises.

So here, we go...

On the Legend, I see two different categories of balcony cabins. What exactly is the difference between an "extended baclony" and one that is not? On our last cruise, we had balcony cabins on the Glory, and will never do without a balcony again.

I see on the Carnival website, a listed itinerary for the Legend that includes Key West, Nassau, Ocho Rios, and Grand Cayman, but there are no sailings listed. Does anyone know if/when this itinerary might be available?

On our first cruise, aboard the Inspiration, the buffet was open much later than on the Glory. The Glory had the pizza station open late, but not much else. Is this the "new" way of doing it, or is it different from ship to ship? DW is a very picky eater, and usually doesn't eat much at dinner, so the buffet is an all important part of our cruise. So who remembers when the buffet was open on the Legend?

Haven't stayed in one yet, but we have a 5A cabin on the Legend on our upcoming cruise. They do not have a balcony, but do have french doors that will open to let in some fresh air (per our PVP). Directly outside the window is a railing. Depending on the cabin you have your view will be similar to one of the following pictures (this is of the Pride, one of the Legend's sister ships)

Hello, we are back and ready to answer questions. "Cleavis" was part of our CC Group. We had a great CC group! Feel free to ask us any questions. I will post a review later today.

Some answers:

Special Sailing listed on website:

That is a charter sailing for Aug. 12th for Black Cruise Week. I know cause I researched it!

We were in cabin 8270, Aft Extended Balcony

1. The difference is the depth of an ext. balc. We had a chair, a table and a lounger and room to pass one another on the balcony. It will depend on how much time you plan to spend out there. Even thought we always get this kind of cabin, we probably only spent a total of 2 hours out there.

2. I was not bothered by noise until the last sea day. I think they started moving chairs earlier. But it wasn't THAT bad!

3. I only experienced a little soot on the last port day..Costa Maya. Probably depends on wind of the day. Not a problem at all. I saw about 5 specs and it wiped away easily. I saw ONE cigarette butt.

Supper Club:

We did the Gloden Fleece on Tuesday cause it is a shorter Port Day. After seeing all the menus, Wednesday and Saturday would also have worked for US. It was wonderful!

French doors on OB do NOT open

more later.....

General Info:

We live in St. Petersburg, Fl so this was extremely easy for us. We arrived at the Port at 10:50am and were on the ship by 11:30. It was very organized and simple. We proceeded to the Lido Deck for lunch. Even though we had set up a CC meeting for Monday morning we met ALOT of group before setting sail. It was very exciting as we had a GREAT Roll Call.

We were surprised when we got to our cabin as our CC group had it decorated for our Anniversary! We had an Aft Ext. Balcony which is our favorite. We decorated cabin doors; Lifeboat Drill was very smooth and quick and got ready for dinner. Our luggage was not there yet so we dined in our boarding clothes, shorts and flip flops.

Eight of us from our Roll Call linked our reservations together for Early sitting at 5:45pm. (Another 12 did so for late sitting) We sat in the center of the dining room at a round table for 8, as requested. This Maitre D was my favorite!

The shows were okay, but we have seen them on previous cruises.

Cruise Director Chris was very good and his asst. David “Austin Powers” should soon be promoted. Very entertaining!

We went to all the Adult Comedy Shows; they were pretty funny, not too R-rated.

Golden Fleece was our first Supper Club experience. It was very nice; Great food, impeccable service and great presentation. We did it after Grand Cayman, which was Tuesday. After looking at the dining room menus I would suggest Tues., Wed. or Saturday.

The Spa is nice. There is an indoor Jacuzzi that was never crowded, and the six-way showers are awesome.

There was a new Karaoke hosted started on this cruise, Sonya. She was very outgoing, funny and everyone keep making her perform “My Humps” which was hilarious! My DH played Garth in the Legends Show the last night which was fun also. The Karaoke is in the Firebird Lounge, kind of hard to find!

I don’t understand complaints about this ship. It is very pretty and spacious.

The easiest way to get around is to start by going to the end of the ship via the Lido Deck or down to Deck 2 or 3 …then take that elevator to the floor you need. You can bypass the casino smoke by remembering to use Atlantic Deck 3 over deck 2.

We did self disembarking, which went very quick. We had intended to leave our luggage out but we didn’t make it back to the cabin before midnight and we were too late.

Ports and Excursions

We had been to Grand Cayman several times, so we waited and took a later tender. The new pier is better organized. We just shopped and went back early for an onboard lunch.

In Cozumelwe were docked but the pier was quite a distance from shopping so we took a Cab/Van ride with some other couples. The silver prices were good and we ended our shopping at the new Carlos and Charlie’s. The manager was very fun and baffled us extensively with his magic/card tricks!

This was our first time to Belize. We booked a private tour for Zip Lining and Cave Tubing that included lunch with Nacho & Cynthia. We went to the Follies lounge at 8:00 am and got tickets for the first tender. So as soon as the ships tours tendered, we were off next. This allowed us to get to the rainforest ahead of the crowds….which is highly suggested. I am very glad I didn’t book this through the cruise line! Our cave tubing experience was just long enough! I had no idea the caves were so big and long!

Costa Maya was definitely a great stop. It is perfect that this is the LAST port. We took a taxi to Majahaul and visited the Cat’s Meow. As you will read in other posts…this was very relaxing. We ate and drank all day for under $50.00 per couple. The $20 massages are wonderful!

Miscellaneous

This cruise was as close to perfect as we have gotten. I really can’t find anything to complain about, but then again I am pretty simple. We have already rebooked this same exact cruise for in the fall.

Our top level aft balcony did see one cigarette butt and 5 specs of soot one day (which I easily removed). I could hear some movement above on the last Sea Day…but nothing to complain about.

We skipped the cocktail parties and past guest party. My DH did excuse himself after ordering dinner the first night to take pics of the Skyway Bridge and returned to eat after about 15 minutes with no problems. Another couple came late on the 5th day with no hassles.

Over all it was WONDERFUL!

I am available to answer any questions.

Kelli,

Thanks for the information about the Skyway bridge. I may have to do the same thing.

Also, do you have any of the Capers. Since the Legend is on the new itenary, I have not found any that have her going to those ports.

Thanks,

jon

Thank you so much for your review! We are sailing on the Legend in Sept. and can harly wait!

Question:

Did you go to the Piano Bar and if so how was it?

Did they have the Bathrobe and Beer Party?

Did they also have a 70's and 80's night?

Where would you suggest we meet (at least 80+) as a CC group on the ship?

On the Glory there was an Adult Pool area (Azure Pool Deck)..do you know where it is located on the Legend?

Who did you use for your Zip Lining and Cave Tubing? As far as the Zipline, how hard was it and does it take a lot of upper body strength??

Thanks for all your help!

Yes, I did bring home all of the Capers!

you go to the Piano Bar and if so how was it? no, because I heard it was horrible!

Did they have the Bathrobe and Beer Party? yes, it was the same night as the Mexican Late Night Buffet, Thursday night after the port of Belize. Lots of line dancing and partying!

Did they also have a 70's and 80's night? yes they did on Tuesday.

Where would you suggest we meet (at least 80+) as a CC group on the ship? the Firebird Lounge. It is off to the side and downstairs from the main lounge, where Karaoke is done....hardly anyone finds it!

On the Glory there was an Adult Pool area (Azure Pool Deck)..do you know where it is located on the Legend? Lido Deck, aft and jacuzzi here is open late!

Who did you use for your Zip Lining and Cave Tubing? As far as the Zipline, how hard was it and does it take a lot of upper body strength?? we used Nacho and Cynthia, you can find out all about them on the Belize Boards. Ziplining was not hard...just that first high platform is a little scary at first but it isn't bad at all. I am a 5'1" weakling, so NO it doesn't take strength!

Thanks.

How was the pizza.

We were on Paradise several years ago and dh loved the always available pizza. As a matter of fact, you could request they make you up an individual pie or calzone. Is this true on Liberty?

Hi Kelli,:)

Thanks for all the great info, you covered quite a bit. I will be on the Legend next February and can not wait. I did book a room on the Panorama Deck #8177, it is under a high traffic area but I am going with the thought that by the time I make it back to my cabin to turn in for the night I usualy fall asleep quickly from all the fun I have been having.

Couple questions, we're booked for December

* Can my teen avail himself of the sushi bar with or without our presence (he's an addict) or is it adult only?

* If anyone gets pics of the aft balconys, particularly 4232; please post. We switched on advice that they were more private with more upright panels between cabins & more shade from above.

* Capers please:)

* Dinner Seating Dilemma booked for early seating, hate thought of rushing. If we switch to late, will we be able to make the 1st show of the night. I've read the 2nd is far more adult oriented:confused: .

* Anyone do these excursions??? trying to decide which to book (DS isn't the strongest swimmer; not a big fan of snorkeling; but will participate):

Grand Cayman:

Coral Reef & Stingray Safari,

Reef & Wreck Snorkel Tour or

Stingray Sandbar & Rum Point Beach

* 99% sure of these ones, are they "good"?

Cozumel - Xcaret

Belize - Cave Tubing or Snuba & Beach Break

Costa Maya - Chacchoben Mayan Ruins

I think the sushi bar is open to anyone. There were only a few teens on this sailing (we had 2 of them). Teens can pretty well do what they want, except drink alcohol. My DS (22) was carded twice, and that is a good thing.

Aft Balcony - 6331 Balcony good size, room comfortable. We usually get a balcony on one of the sides of the ship, opted for aft this time. Felt some vibrations at each port, not horrible, but we decided we didn't like it. A bit of soot on the chairs of balcony. The larger balcony was nice if you have more than 2 people trying to look out, but we think we will go back to the side balconies. We could see other people if we leaned out, and also hear them on the balconies, but that is the same on any balcony. Laundry room directly below on Deck 5, don't know about Deck 4. Interior rooms on Legend were great size, had 2 across hall from our balcony room.

Shows - I think the early show & the later show are the same, they have R rated comedy, etc. at a midnight showing a few times a week. 1st show starts around the time of 2nd seating dinner, 2nd show at 10:30. With all the ports, it makes for some long days. Each of us opted out of a show or 2 during the week, but a few from our group of 6 was at each show.

Grand Cayman - Ds (22) DD (16) and Grandmother went with Native Way to Stingray, Rum Point, & Beach Break. They had a good time with this tour, very pretty beach, lunch included ($60 pp I think). Plenty of time to do all. The tour guides meet you at the pier when you come off the tender boat. Grand Cayman is a beautiful island, water is warm and good for snorkeling or diving (which the rest of us did).

Cozumel - My 2 DS (22,15) went to Xcaret with their Grandmother (65) was a lot of walking for G'ma, but all had a wonderful time. There was almost no one there, and they were able to do everything they wanted except the Dolphin swim. Food is expensive there. $25 pp for buffet. Iquanas & parrots roaming freely, parrots will go right on your arm or head for pictures. DH, DD & myself went cenote diving on the mainland. Not a popular excursion, so was only us 3 from the ship.

Costa Maya - All 6 of us went to Chacchoben Mayan Ruins with David of David & Ivan, reviews on another thread, very informative. Alot of walking, alot of people. Didn't have to wait in line, but seemed crowded. There are a few shopping stalls located at the entrance and a small cafe with snacks & drinks. The shopping had wood carved vases & bowls which I didn't see back at the fishing village near the pier, so I was glad I went ahead and purchased at the ruins. The Ruins are worth the drive, and if you have a knowledgeable guide, he will help pass the time of the drive. Someone with a young toddler was in our group, and the baby was not happy. I don't think the parents had a good time. Had time afterwards to go to the fishing village, shop, have a drink, and DS & DD had a massage, only 1/2 hour because of time to get back to ship, but was nice to get there do those things. Since it was the end of the day, crowds had thinned out.

Belize - We were at the tail end of the dry season for cave tubing, so water very low. Lots of "Butts up". Guide walked through the water most of the time. Very leisurely tube ride at the time we went, we were told it gets a lot faster and wilder in the rainy season. A lot of people are doing this excursion, so it can seem crowded in the caves and where you come out of the cave. Did enjoy the tour. Long walk and it is hot & humid. We did zipline after the cave tubing, and thought that was more fun. Our family was by ourselves doing the zipline. All the other tour groups had finished for the day when we got there, which made for no waiting and great videos.

Don't know about the beach break in Belize.

Have fun no matter which your shore excursions!

Dinner Seating times: as always, pros and cons to both. We picked early and didn't feel rushed. It is closest to our regular dining time as we live in EST. It also allowed us to see the early shows and have more time in Karaoke.

Pizza/Calzone: was excellent! You could order custom but usually late at night most people take what is available instead of waiting.

Aft Cabins: We could only see below us about 1 foot in from railing. We were directly under Lido deck and no one saw us!!! haha!

Hi, has anyone stayed in Stateroom 6181 on the empress deck, or another Cat 11 in close proximity to this one? I have studied the deck plans and I have seen pics of a Cat 11 aft, but I cannot find pics of a Cat 11 midship. Just wondering if anyone had stayed in one and what their impressions were. Would love pics if you have them.

Thanks,

The first show starts around the time of 2nd seating dinner. So you go to 1st seating dinner, then the show. If you have 2nd seating dinner you can't see the first show (unless you are skipping the dining room) because it starts the same time as dinner. You would go to the 2nd show which is at 10:30, then there is a midnight show afterwards (some of the nights) which had adult rated comedy. I have capers at home, I'll look up the exact time of the 1st show. (i'm at work, teehee).

Another question for all you Legend-ary cruisers! What did you think of the temperature in the public areas of the ship? Last year on the Glory, I had to bring a sweater or jacket every time we saw a show in the Amber Palace--I think it should have been named the Ice Palace. Is it as cold in the Follies Theatre on the Legend?
