Guide To Florida Car Rental (Transfer To Port)

Acrossenger

Recommended Posts

I have the opposite request of most people here. I want to rent a car for one day (well, will actually be two days as will be slightly over 24 hours) after my cruise. I disembark in Tampa and from other threads I read that Enterprise has the closest location to the port, but unfortunately I disembark on a Sunday and that location is closed. Does anyone know of a car rental agency that will pick my party up at the port and take us to their office to proceed with our rental? Is TPA likely the closest location for renting, if I should have to take a taxi to a car rental place? Any discount codes would, of course, also be much appreciated!

Does anyone have any rental car codes for discounts, we like using budget since they are in the terminal at Orlando, but we will use anyone if the price is right.

Thanks

has anyone used the avis code C03___9 recently? I heard it was blacklisted and not able to use and would result in maximum rates if found using. Seems like the best code out there, but is it too good to be true?
Yes, this number is blacklisted.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Stop posting these AWD numbers.

This is a quote from the Avis website. If you have any questions call Avis customer service and they will explain it to you.

"Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number is a unique number assigned to an Avis account or program that identifies eligibility for contracted features or rates. Identification of membership is required at the time of rental."

To encourage people to use a discount code that they are not entitled to use only causes them problems at the rental counter!

There are many legitimate discounts, such as Sam's Club, Costco, AARP, Entertainment book and AAA that will provide a very competitive rate. (Take your membership card with you).

Good afternoon,

My family is going on our first cruise in July and I am researching renting a car to drive one way. I located Avis with a B999000 code that works. It says "corporate" and don't want to get the discount removed when we check in. Can anyone let me know if indeed this is a valid code and I should be okay to utilize?

Thank you in advance for your time.

From a quick google it shouldn't be used - its a rate for Avis employees, and you will be questioned and charged rack rates instead on collection.

Actually this is not the Avis employee code, it is an old code that was used for AAA members when they had a contract with Avis.

Usually, AARP or Allstate Motor Club or Sams Club will give you the same rate. If you call the 1-800 number and ask they can run the different codes for you and help you find one you are entitled to.

Sometimes the internet rates are better than the rates the phone agents can find, but most internet rates are non-discountable unless they are corporate negotiated rates.

Back early in this thread it was stated that the following had complementary shared shuttle between Port Everglades and FLL airport:

Avis (In airport terminal)

Budget (In airport terminal)

Hertz (In airport terminal)

National (In airport terminal)

Thrifty (In airport terminal)

Does this still hold true? The original post was a couple of years ago.

Other locations listed near the port were:

Budget (1 Miles away, 1515 SE 17th street causeway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316)

Hertz (0.6 Miles away, 1850 Eller Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316)

Thrifty (1.1 Miles away, 2400 Miami Road, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316-3927)

National (1.5 Miles away, 600 Terminal Drive, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33315)

Alamo (1.5 Miles away, 600 Terminal Drive, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33315)

Is there a shuttle to these locations, or does one need to take a cab? If there is a shuttle, is there a fee?

I'm looking at a post cruise rental.

Thanks for updated info.

We rented Alamo post cruise in FLL and there was a large bus that brought us from the pier to the Alamo rental facility. It was an "Alamo" bus, the names of the rental companies are displayed on each bus, which they can change, sort of like a city bus. I'm pretty sure all the rental companies signed on for this. Lots of people use the shuttles to get back and forth from the pier/airport to pick up and drop off rental cars. They will ask you for your rental info as you board the bus. It was very convenient. Enjoy.

Anyone have any RECENT similar experience taking a shuttle to/from Miami Airport and the Port of Miami? We are dropping off a National rental car at the airport pre-cruise, and picking another one up right after the cruise...

Many rental companies are NOT in this shuttle arrangement. The ones providing are Alamo/National, Dollar/Thrifty, Hertz, and Budget. Avis was on, but I recently talked to the Avis agent there directly. She said they are no longer on that due to cost and low traffic. I asked if they may join again in mid-March (when we'll be there), as the traffic should be higher then, she said not sure.

My wife and I just book a Royal Caribbean cruise for the 22nd of January. Looking for an inexpensive way to get from the Orlando airport to Port Canaveral. I've been told one-way rentals each way is the cheapest way to go. Can anyone share some suggestions on what rental company to use and the approximate cost? Thanks!

Port Canaveral

Avis (1.2 Miles away, 6650 N Atlantic Ave, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920, more staffs than Budget, complementary shuttle to port)

Budget (0.3 Miles away)

Thrifty (1.2 Miles away)

Hertz (1.4 Miles away)

Typical cost: $43

I have discovered Avis AWD C031529 offers the best discount and everyone can use it. I use it all the time and saved me tons of money over the years. It also includes Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) ($3000 deductible).

So for example (Avis location code listed):

Fly in/out of Orlando and cruise out of Port Canaveral

Avis MCO Airport (in terminal) - P3F (complementary shuttle to port)

Avis P3F - MCO

What about flying into/from Melbourne and cruise out of Port Canaveral?

What is the typical cost and an example of Avis codes?

Any good advice for those of us taking this route?

I was wondering if AVIS gave u any issues using with code?

I have probably spent the last two ours going through all 25 pages of comments. I was trying to find a good rate from Sanford Airport to Port Canaveral for two days. 2/27-3/1. Well I used the code B999000 for AVIS just to see what it would give me and for two days I booked for $71! For a MINI-VAN! Thats with all their extra charges too!

Now I have also read that sometimes that ask questions at the counter regarding the code, as the originally poster of the code did not know what it was for I thought I would test it. If they say something like "You have to work for XYZ company for this rate," I will tell them that I simply found the rate online.

I also booked with Dollar incase this does happen. I can just tell AVIS I did not know and then go pick up my rental with Dollar. Not as cheap by any means but atleast its safe!

Used Budget with a Mastercard discount for this last week in Miami near the airport. I had a three day rate midsize for $120 total which outdid any other company.>>>much cheaper than any with a shuttle from the port. A cab was easy to get and for the flat rate to the airport of $24 he took us directly to Budget at their pickup.

Don't expect polite service...we had a couple of very rude service people. First they tried the game of upgrading...then when I said exactly as guaranteed, we got a Toyota Corolla...we survived to tell the tale. I didn't realize we could have got upgraded with our Costco card. However he started our contract at 10:18 instead of the 11 on a 24 hour clock and the contract then read $151 so I had him write on it that if we delivered back at 10:18 it would still be $120....and when the car didn't arrive til 10:45...had him adjust again for the long wait!

When we pointed out a dent, the woman at the gate didn't want to write it down and when she finally did, it didn't show on our contract ...well she was plain stubborn.

Dropoff thank goodness was painless and fast but it did dampen our holiday with thoughts of going back there and how we'd be treated. Also because the car was delivered with beads of water from a carwash and we'd missed a series of wee dents because of them.

Bottom line.....get the cheapest price with whatever coupons and a cab...probably the best deal you'll get and more efficient than waiting on shuttles.

Unfortunately we had the SAME experience! The staff were really awful there and we use BUDGET all the time for business all over the midwest and have never had anything like this.

The upgrade game is annoying and if a person tells you NO, then they should just give up, instead we got....."you were late getting here so you're lucky to get any car now". Our flight was delayed and we called the main office twice and were assured our vehicle would be held and no worries.

When they gave us the car, not the car we requested...a gas guzzler.... it was dark and raining and parked in a poorly lit lot. We had to drag our luggage out there in the rain and dark and try to find the car! There was no drive up to the door for inspection, off we went to find the car in the lot!

We squeezed between the cars, barely opened the doors, got in and went to the checkout were it was a bit more lit. We had several areas that were damaged, we pointed out, but several not seen til light of day! We called immediately upon finding the damage, corporate was wonderful and told us there had already been a damage report on that vehicle from a previous renter. They apologized, offerred us another vehicle, we said no thanks, we only had it for a day.

Next day when we returned it we were treated SO poorly! We were repeatedly told it was our fault and they knew nothing about us tlaking with corporate, and there was no other damage report on the vehicle and there was no notation by the checkout clerk of any damage at all when we left!

We were told several times, we would be billed for the damage and (loved this part) we "should have known better than to take a vehicle without checking it thoroughly"! Ugggh!

It was a terrible experience!!!

We arrived home from our wonderful cruise and got a bill from them for $820 for damage! OMG, I was so angry.

We had our business attorney write a letter, a month later, we got a short note back from BUDGET saying the matter was resolved...and they looked forward to doing business with us in the future.

Maybe the other Budget locations will continue to get our business, but I would NEVER rent from them in Miami again, I don't care if it was the cheapest place around!

I don't need that aggravation before my vacation, after my cruise and when I return. And I certainly don't like going into a business on high alert that I'm going to be ripped off, argued with, treated like a criminal, and needing to fight at any given moment! Bad Karma! Bad Business.

I will never recommend this place.

Just in case you think I might be one of "those" complainer, difficult people, you can read all my posts, I am not at all hard to please, and very easy going

Wow Jan! I'm hoping we don't get a bill for damages! In all places we'd rented from before, we'd never had this type of service. My husband was most pleasant when he wanted to show the damage and she crossed her arms and reprimanded him for not giving her the contract first. There was no little map of the car to circle damaged spots as in Hertz or Thrifty. She raised her voice to screaming almost and my husband turned the engine off and said, write the damage on our contract or we are not leaving...I just feel worried that making a fuss and missing the other damage, we may get a bill like you did!

Beware getting a freshly washed wet car...it hides a lot of dents!

LOL, Our was freshly washed too....but the interior upholstery in the back seat was stained!

Hope you don't get a bill either...if you do I can send you a copy of the letter we sent.

Never again there....never again!

I know that this thread has been around for a while, and we were able to use some of the information for previous cruises, but we are cruising again in August and am trying to find a rental for our overnight.

It appears that only Hertz has a shuttle from its downtown location to the port. We are flying into MIA, probably staying in Coconut Grove, then heading to the port the next morning. We would cab it both ways, but if the car rental is cheaper or close to it, we would like to have the flexibility.

However, all of the codes previous posted for Hertz seem to give the same discount. Are there any newer codes out there that anyone has used that might be better? At this point, the best price is with BJ's Warehouse and with taxes a Chevy Impala is about $89.

Thanks.

If you have AAA my total last night for an Impala on May 30 was $50. I need the class below and it was $46. I already had a reservation with a rate of $67, so keep checking. As you get closer the rate may drop.

How do you get the AAA rate into the booking? I pulled what I thought was the code and the price is the same as with all of the other codes I have...right around $90 or so for the Impala. I guess it's the time we're travelling (August 21).
