How much money is needed?

I am sure this question has been answered before but I can't find my answer so I am hoping someone will be kind enough to answer.

 

We are flying into Fairbanks and taking the train to Seward. I am not sure how much money we will need for the train trip. Are meals included or do we pay for these as we go? Can you charge things on a train or do you need cash. Our traveling companions are getting travelers check but we would prefer to just charge things if possible. Thanks for your help.

Meals are not included on the train. A recent post confirmed they do take credit cards.

 

I would take a few hundred dollars in cash and forget the Traveler's Checks.

Thanks so much for the information. I was hoping the charge card would work. I know traveler's checks are suppose to be safer but I have always found them to be a real pain to cash. I am glad we will not need them.
