We are also going on QE2 on 4th Sept. It will be our 10th time on board. We are Platinum members which means we have spent 100 or more nights on board. We just love this ship, I'm sure you will too.We have been on 2 other cruises with other cruise lines and the difference is amazing. This is cruising as it used to be, and is so much more elegant than the modern ships. The difference in the way you are looked after is very noticeable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. One of the other cruise lines we cruised with was last year, and no-one seemed to bother to dress for dinner in the evenings and passengers seemed to make a lot of noise. QE2 always seems peaceful and quiet and generally more classy.

We will be in Mauretania also, and the food is fine. Some say its just as good as the higher class restaurants. Sometimes there may be a bit of a delay between courses, but this usually isn't a problem, as usually conversation round the table is good.

I'm sure you'll fall in love with the ship just as we have.

Great to know you are also on this cruise, and that you like the ship so much.

We are in cabin 4035 on the 4th deck. Hope to meet on board. If we do not talk before the trip, please call us once on board, so we can arrange a place to meet if you like. We did this on our recent trip on the QM2, and ended up meeting a real nice group of people through this forum. We met several times during the trip to chat and to exchange experiences. We live in Asheville, N.C. and will be flying out of Atlanta on the 3rd.

Are you planning to take any of the shore excursions? There are several that look interesting, and we are thinking about booking some.

Hello again Joel,

We are coming on this cruise - although - - we just had a call from our travel agent to say that the cruise is overbooked, and we now have to have an inside M3 cabin or not go. Admittedly, we picked up a cheap fare about 2 months ago, but it was for a guaranteed porthole cabin, so we are quite disappointed. They are giving us some on board credit, and I think,a small refund. So still don't know our cabin number but will call you!

At least we only live about 30 minutes from Southampton docks, so we don't have to make a long journey to the ship.

That doesn't seem to make sense. I have heard of people with guarantees being upgraded, but never downgraded. After all, that's what a guarantee is for. I'd have your TA contact Cunard or contact them yourself with a copy of whatever paperwork you had for your "guarantee."

We queued, embarked, went straight to Purser's office to demand they honour the porthole guarantee. They said wait until everyone checked in. Went through with the safety drill. Back to Purser's after drill - now sailing time - they couldn't guarantee anything (apart from the fact we held a fullly paid-up porthole cabin until 2 days ago, when we reluctantly, on the spur of the moment, said we would take a bribe and go without a porthole. But what a cabin they had allocated us - a shabby shoe box. Two weeks in that with no view. I'm afraid at sailing time (when they couldn't guaranteed what they had guaranteed for two months) I asked to leave the ship. We left by a crew gangway, with our luggage, dumped on the dockside. I'm so upset. Need to find something to do now, don't even want to unpack. Wonder if we'll get any refund now.

Hi Joal,

We are a Scottish couple going on the same cruise as yourself. We are in cabin 4093(deck 4).This is our first cruise and we look forward to meeting you on board.

Jim & Ellen Wilson.

Jim & Ellen:

You might not see this until you return from your voyage aboard QE2, but I hope that you will feel an added degree of pride in the QE2 as she is, of course, a Scottish-built ship. Built at the magnificent old John Brown shipyard, Clydebank....birthplace of so many other beloved Cunard lines "Lusitania", "Queen Mary", "Queen Elizabeth".

I hope that you both have (or had) a wonderful time aboard our much-loved "Queen Elizabeth 2" !!!

Tom

A guarantee is a guarantee. They are in breach of contract. I would send them a letter by recorded delivery requesting a sum of money in recompence. If they will not agree to a reasonable sum sue them in the County Court. If what you say is correct you will win.

Our travel agent has asked us to put it all in writing so we have done that as a first step. Meanwhile, we have booked a cruise on Black Prince (Fred Olsen) sailing on 16th September. So we do have to hope we get a refund. I'm tempted not to unpack, but its another 11 days yet!

Thanks again to both.
