Seattle Hotel ????

Trailblazer

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know anything about the Roosevelt Hotel in Seattle? I asked our T.A. to look into a downtown location with a reasonable rate and she came back suggesting the Roosevelt at $120 per night. I have not seen that mentioned very much on this board and before I do anything would like the expert advise I find here. I have looked it up on other sites and it looks and sounds OK but I'd value any insights from anyone. We'll be flying into Seattle 7/31, spending 2 nights before departing for Vancouver and the Dawn Princess on 8/2 Thanks for your help !!!!

Trailblazer,

I'm not familiar with the Roosevelt, but we stayed 2 nights in Seattle before our NCL Sky cruise in 2001 and stayed at the Crowne Plaza downtown.

We had paid around $119 back then. They do offer many different discounted rates, AAA, AARP, Entertainment Book (we used that), etc.

We took a taxi to the ship, but had lots of fun walking the city. Even took a Grayline sightseeing tour (small tourbus was great). So much to see and do it was well worth the stay. Hope this helps. Happy cruising! Sleddogs

Don't know about the Roosevelt. I booked a three star hotel in the Pike Street Market area through hotwire for only $63 per night. For the price you are paying, Hotwire had 4 star hotels and higher in the downtown area.

Sleddogs,

We have booked the Crowne Plaza for 2 night in July. Were you pleased with the hotel? This was the first post I have seen for this hotel. Were you able to walk to Pikes Place Market or did you take the city bus? We plan to check out Seattle sites the first day and go over to Victoria the second day (I know the second day will be a long one--plan to take the first "Victoria Clipper" in the morning to Victoria and the last one back to Seattle). Any other can't miss places or places to eat? One last question--how did you get to the ship - cab or did the hotel have a shuttle?

Thanks for the information.

Carol

trailblazer While the Rooseevelt is an old hotel I believe it has been renovated. It has a good reputation in Seattle. $120 a night is good for downtown Seattle, I live here.

I don't know how good the Roosevelt is, but we got it on Priceline (3* Downtown) for $60 (5/21-5/22). You should try that instead of paying $120.

Windermere,

Thank you for your comments about the Crowne Plaza. Can't wait, I do feel better about the hotel. The pictures looked nice...but, you just never know.

Lucky you only 26 days. Have you started packing?

Thanks for the info everyone !!! I think I will try Priceline or Hotline, although I don't have any experience using either one. I have looked briefly at better bidding website and have a sense of things, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Also the Victoria Clipper has me intrigued. Any insights there would be great!!

Trailblazer,

You can get information on the "Victoria Clipper" at victoriaclipper.com. It is a high speed passenger ferry (it takes about 2 hours to get from Seattle to Victoria). I have been told Victoria is a place not to be missed. Most people think a day trip is not enough time; however, that's all we have so we will make the best of it. I booked my trip today. We are doing the Clipper Combo Tour (includes city tour and Butchart Gardens). Price was $140.00. Hope this helps.

Hi Carol. I have not yet started packing but... I am "staging" my things. I will not pack until 2 days before we sail. I think you will be pleased with the Crowne. We have stayed there and I would stay there again. I always request a room on the upper floors they look down on the city.

Trailblazer if you get a chance Victoria is a MUST SEE! It is a wonderful city it is so much like England. You will need a passport or birth certif. To get into Canada.

Windermere,

We are on the Executive/Club Floor. I think I read somewhere that it is the 31st or 32nd floor. Hope that's not too high. We should be able to see Alaska from there HA!

We don't leave until July 14th and I have already started a list of things not to forget. I always have more than I need. I'm not too sure about the clothes I'll take since we don't do a lot of layering in Texas.

Do you think we will get to see enough in Victoria in just one day? I understand there are some quaint pubs that should be visited!!!!

Through Priceline, I put in a $115 bid for one night, Friday, May 14th for a 4* hotel downtown. I got the Westin so I'm happy.

Trailblazer...

See the previous post...you'd be much better off paying $114 (Priceline) for the Westin than $120 for the Roosevelt I think.

I would start bidding on 4* Downtown at about $70 and then going up $5 or $10 until you hit $100. (You have to wait 3 days between bids). If you look at the list of 4* hotels DT on Bidding for Travel I think they are all very nice hotels. If you decide to go cheaper (like we did), drop your bid to $50 for 3*

DT. You should definitely start at 4* though. If you look at the list, people have gotten 4* for under $100...it just depends on the time of the year and what's happening.

Hi Carol, Victoria is the perfert day trip. No need to rent a car. You can stay in the inner harbor area and see alot. If you want to see Burcahrt Gardens you can take a bus. A must see in Victoria is the Museum of Natural History. It is right there in the inner harbor area. Plan on at least 2 hours in the museum it is great. The wax musem is also kinda fun.

Thanks everyone for the info on Victoria Clipper and bidding on priceline. We are traveling with another couple whose daughter and son-in-law have just moved to Seattle. They really want us to see Victoria and from the time frame you mentioned here it sounds doable. we get into Seattle midday, hope to see Pike Market and maybe Pioneer Square. The next day sounds like Victoria is feasable. Any help with this plan would be appreciated.

Trailblazer,

Be sure to let us know how you do with priceline. I am one of those that like to pick out the hotel and type of room; however, sometimes I will have to go for a three star because of the price when I would rather have a four star. Good Luck. Hope you get to do the Victoria trip. I'm sure looking forward to it.

Windermere,

Thank you for all your info on Victoria. I know we won't have time to do everything but we will get to see alot I'm sure.

Carol/Houston,

Hi! Sorry not to reply sooner, but have not had a chance to catch up this week.

We were very pleased with the Crowne Plaza. In fact, we try to stay at Crowne Plaza Hotels whenever we can. They have always been top notch. We took a cab to the cruise terminal and it was not very expensive then.

We walked everywhere, (very hilly so be prepared)from down to the waterfront to Pike's Place. Booked a Grayline City Sights Tour of Seattle which was very worthwhile. It was on a smaller type tour bus so we got to drive up into spots those big buses can't drive through.

Instead of going up in the Space Needle which was very pricey and had a

1 1/2 hour wait, we chose to go to the Bank of America tower at 701 Fifth Avenue. You can go up to the observation level, which is higher than the Space Needle, and get spectacular views of Seattle. It was cheaper as well. We even saw our cruise ship from afar. There was hardly anyone there on the Sunday we went.

Good place to eat at the waterfront is Ivar's Acres of Clams and in the city we ate at the brand new Cheesecake Factory. Yum and yum!

If you have any other questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can.

We loved Alaska so much, this August we are going back and doing a 12 night cruisetour. Can't wait! Happy cruising, you'll have a ball.

Sleddogs,

Thank you so much for the Seattle infomation and your input on the Crowne Plaza. I think we will try the Bank of America Bldg. instead of the Space Needle. Hope to have time to eat at Ivar's and the Cheesecake Factory. Should get us started for all the good food on the cruise. Now if July 14th would get here.

Carol,

You are very welcome. I know you'll have a wonderful time in Seattle. I hope we get to go again sometime.

Your trip will be here before you know it. We have to wait until August 1st for our Alaska cruise. I can't wait, but at the same time don't want to wish the summer away if you know what I mean.

Well have a wonderful cruise. Let me know how you like Seattle. Sleddogs icon_smile.gif

pattict1,

We were able to see some "O" pics posted on this website. It makes it so much harder to wait the two weeks!

Do you live near Seattle? If so, we have a question. We're going to Port Angeles from the airport a few days before the cruise. AAA routed us through Seattle to Edmunds Ferry and over. MapQuest routed us south to Tacoma and then up the peninsula. The Edmunds route is about 30 miles shorter. But we were thinking that it might be quicker (and a nicer ride) to not go through DT Seattle and have to wait on the ferry. Our flight gets in at 10:40AM so I guess we'd be leaving the airport around 11:30AM.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.
