hondar Posted May 9, 2004 #26 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Windermere, You are so lucky! We're going to stay two nights there and spend one full day exploring Hoh Rainforest and beaches on coast. Of course we'll go to Hurricane ridge. I've been to Port Angeles only once...about 10 years ago. I was in Seattle on business and stayed for the weekend. One of my side trips for the day was to Port Angeles and Olympic National Park. I've always wanted to come back...and I get to bring my DH this time! We have a waterfront room reserved at the Red Lion Inn...for $99 per night. I've read that the hotel is kind of run down, but I figure the location and view should offset that. Your thoughts? pattict1 Posted May 9, 2004 #27 Share Posted May 9, 2004 hondor I actually live about 20 miles south of Seattle but I work in Seattle. As for which way to go, I think you would enjoy a ferry ride as it is always a treat for us here. I love to take the ferry. I assume you are coming in on a Thursday since you said you were coming in two days before you sail? The traffic through downtown is usually bad but it is better during the weekdays and the middle of the day. My vote is the ferry as I believe the drive would take you at least 2 hours from Sea Tac airport. Let me know if you have other questions. I am unavailable from Wednesday until Friday the 14th then we sail on the 5/15. You can email me at p.coletindall@comcast.net too.
TheDivineMsM Posted May 10, 2004 #28 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Definitely take the Ferry route..much less traffic (travel on freeway) and much better scenery. Awesome Alaskan Adventure Dream on 9/22/
Rare Gardyloo Posted May 10, 2004 #29 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Take the Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry, not the Edmonds ferry - bigger boats, more frequent, much faster to get to than the Edmonds dock. At that time of day, figure 25 min. from the airport to the downtown ferry terminal. The view of the city from the ferry is worth the trip on its own; but if you're concerned about traffic understand that you'll be avoiding virtually all of the Seattle traffic, vs. lots of potentially bad traffic you'd encounter by going via Tacoma and the Narrows Bridge, then Bremerton. TheDivineMsM Posted May 10, 2004 #30 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Given he choice, we always do the Edmonds route. Once you are on the Freeway, your 20 minutes from the pier. The ferries there are now the same size as Bainbridge and approximately the same wait time. Awesome Alaskan Adventure Dream on 9/22/
windermere Posted May 10, 2004 #31 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Hi Hondar, The Red Lion is showing it's age a bit but the location is the best! You will have a waterfront trail right outside your door. You can walk anywhere in the downtown area too! I love the O.N.P. it is like no other place on this earth. The Rain forest is one of my favorites. Sol Duc Resort is also a great day trip too! If you want a great dinner here The Bella Italla is the BEST! Until I am back on the Infinity
hondar Posted May 10, 2004 #32 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Thanks to everyone for their great advice about the ferry. We'll definitely go that way..I'll pull down the schedules and decide which terminal to use. We'll actually be going on a Tuesday, coming back on Thursday to spend a couple of nights in Seattle prior to cruise. Windermere Thanks for the restuarant recommendation. We really can hardly wait now!! OOSTERDAM 5/22/04 SPIRIT 12/9/03 LEGEND 2/14/03 IMAGINATION 10/19/02 PRIDE 3/16/02 INDEPENDENCE 8/2000
