Proper attire in Grand Casino Monte Carlo?

I see the words "proper attire" in several places and I can interpret that to mean no shorts, no jeans, etc... but how dressy is it in the casino?

I have heard men should be in suit and tie. Is this only during the evening or all day? I'd hate to make my husband wear a suit and tie for a mid-day visit to the casino. Also, does anyone know the age limit for gambling in the Monte Carlo Casino? Is is 18 or 21?

Coat and tie are not required for mid-day visit. Most people were dressed in casual slacks. Don't recall shorts, however I was there in October. You probably already know, there is a 10E admission fee.

I also heard that they require to check your passport, is this true???

 

I was not planning on carrying my passport at ports, maybe only a copy.

A passport is only required if you collect gambling winnings. This is according to a excursion brochure distributed by Celebrity.

We were there in late June. A passport was required and they didn't care that my husband was wearing shorts.

We were there in August on a weeknight at night. My husband wore a jacket and tie but most men in the casino were dressed in casual resort wear. We didn't see anyone in shorts.
