General info on San Juan

We are booking a February 2008 departing from San Juan. We have cruised a number of times before but never out of San Juan. We are looking for any general info we should know before booking the hotel. Do the hotels provide any transportation to the port, is the port very far from the hotel area, are there areas we should absolutely stay away from? - any info appreciated.

No hotel shuttles. Plenty of taxies. Hotels closest to piers are in Old San Juan

Puerta de Tierra or Condado. Isla Verde is near the airport, so a bit further.

Try these: http://www.langland.org/cruises/sanjuan.asp

As for places to avoid, just take the usual precautions you take at home.
