Just Back From Legend - Different Perspective

My husband and I were on the Legend this past week and went to Bermuda. Not everyone rioted...we didn't , nor did most of the people we associated with. Not sure Carnival knew of the problem before hand because we were sailing at normal speed until late Weds. nite. Announcement of trouble came early Thurs. morning...

There were some really unhappy people but most of the 2000 plus took it in stride and after an initial dissappointment got over it and got on with the business of having a good time...

Bermuda was spectacular and the weather there was awesome...not so where we were supposed to have been. We had to go into the navy pier because of the size of the ship. All the ships excursions left from right there...couldn't have been more convenient. We took a ferry to Hamiliton and back and used the excellent bus system to get to the beach and other sites...All for $11 a day...not bad.

There were some who flew home Sat. but not that many...

Everyone did not withhold tips from the crew...some did...wrongly IMHO.

The tv cameras were just showing up when my husband and I got off the ship, but they didn't want to hear our story...I guess only grumpy, angry, complaining people are newsworthy....

We waited a year for this vacation...we weren't going to let a change of plans ruin it for us ...

Life is too short for that....

The Legend is a beautiful ship and we had a fantastic time...the $150 credit paid for our excursions!

355 days til next cruise...back on the Legend..... in 8/05

Happy to hear you enjoyed your cruise and rolled with the punches so to speak.

Also nice to hear positive about the Legend as lately the news and reviews have not been so great.

Did they keep the shops and casino open while docked in Bermuda?

Sounds like you handled the situation a little more maturely than others.

Of course, the media didn't want to talk to you, what kind of news story talks about people who make the best out of a situation!!!

Good for you!!!!

Was the "300 to 400 deep" with people rioting count an overstatement as mentioned in another post?

BTW, DOCKSIDE, or the Naval academy, is where we went for our Pride cruise last year. I actually liked the area. Bought a transportaion pass for about $20+ and had unlimited service on the buses and the ferries for three days. Kept on heading toward Horseshoe Bay, and never ventured further, but I'm sure therew were more secluded beaches.

At night, we had the balmy bay breezes looking at the lighthouse in the distance. Very sad this run only had one scheduled tour of duty this year.

I'd have to say IMHO that 300 to 400 people was an over estimate... but we didn't waste our vacation time sitting in the lobby listening to some angry people...too many other fun things to do on a cruise...if you know what I mean...

We loved Horseshoe Bay...reminded me of being a kid at Coney Island and riding the waves...of course this water was actually blue, I could see my feet and it was a lot warmer...:0)

I would like to hear more about your cruise!if you have time to post!!! Give some details on the ship, great places to hang out, things not to miss. How was the entertainment? Things a first timer on the ship should know.

Thanks for the positive comments!

The entertainment was top-notch...There were three big Las Vegas style productions instead of the two we are used to from 7 day cruises. There were two review that featured 4 performers... 2 females and 2 males... I honestly can't remember there names but the shows were great and the dancers fantastic...The 3rd show featured a male vocalist and the dancers...he had a great voice... Later in the week he had a show featuring motown music and a comedian, but no dancers... Each of the other male singers had a matinee show at 5 pm on two different sea days...One did show tunes and the other did country-pop tunes...Both were talented and entertaining... There were comedians late on two occassions but we saw neither we were either in the casino or karyokee (sp????) lounge (that was a blast!)... The cruise director did a magic show one night - he was pretty amazing...we enjoyed that... One night there was a juggling act called the Village Idiots...they were funny and talented...There was so much to do.....

We liked the Firebird Lounge for karyokee (sp?????) that's also were they had the art auctions...

The ship is beautiful, Bermuda was fantastic...the weather was great...We plan on being back on the Legend next August to hit the 3 ports we missed. Can't wait!

Hi SnowWhiteNYC

I sailed last year in September on the Legend for San Juan St thomas Tortola and we could not go because of Hurricane Isabel. We ended up going to Key West Nassau and Freeport. Same thing happen but in a smaller scale. Many people were ruinning there and there familys vacations saying the would have not gone on the ship if the would have found out earlier. But we toke for the best. We had worked hard all year for vacation and we wanted to have fun. We had never been there so we did not mind although we really did not want to go there. We also got like $100 per person even though Carnival did not have to since in says in the tickets if they can substitute the ports you get no money. I noticed you booked again for the Legend in 1 year. We did the same. As soon as we got back we booked again but early. We went in July of this year and it was a perfect cruise. We even went to Bermuda. Well saw from the ship. A man had a heart attack and we were dropping him of. We got an extra day on the ship for free. Well glad you enjoyed the cruise on the Legend even the decor.

Snowwhite,

So happy to hear that you made the best of it and had a nice cruise. Life is so short. Glad you enjoyed the Ship. I love Cruising and have been on 42 cruises so far. Will be going out on Legend end of Sept. I was on Her Sister Ship "Pride" 2yrs ago and loved this class of Carnival's Ships. I wouldn't mind in the least to end up in Bermuda. Its a lot better than floudering in the ocean for a few days with 2 hurricaines about. Bermuda is also a beautiful place. Thank you for taking the time to give your perspective and review. Ike
