Elation Review 8/15

Hi All,

Thought I would write a quick review from our cruise on 8/15. Overall an "ok" experience. Both my husband and I had previously cruised on the Paradis and had a "great experince". We found the Elation to be a bit disappointing. Both of us felt that the ship is starting to show her age!! The posts about the major water stains on Main deck are CORRECT!! Fiist time walking on it you weren't sure....if you were walking on wet soggy carpeting. Here are some of my impressions...

Cabin: Main 190 Great location very near the elevators and not much noise. We did not have good luck with our cabin stewart..Although very polite and did answers his pages quickly and we felt that he he did not put all his effort in... I thought the room was very dusty upon arrival...did not seem clean. Chair was stained and ripped... Our room was not turned down at night once and did not recieve capers twice. I heard other poor service on the main deck and good things on the other decks.

Public areas: Always seemed to clean and everybody from the cleaning crew to the officers always say hi to you! Smoking: I was little worried about the smoke smell...not bad at all. Faint smoke smell on cabin esp in bathroom. (Bring air freshner) Smoking only aloud on lido decks and casino...never seemed to be a problem!!

Food: We were very pleased the food in both the Dinning room and Tiffany/Lido. We had one glinched. We requested late seating but eneded up with Early. We went to the Matra'de right away and was told we would be informed by the next afternoon with a note in our cabin...WE never heard about any changes (checked at dinning room and info desk was told aging a note would be in out room). We did find out by accident when my husback lost his sail and sign card and got a new one with new late seating on the card.

Shows: We enjoyed all the shows.....and found no problem with seating if you got to the lounge about 1/2 hour early.

Tours: We booked tours from the ship (we got chicken about non ship tours). Progresso...Mayan Ruin Tour (4 hours long) Great, very infomative guide and did not have a long bus ride. Sink hole nothing to write home about...My husband was the only one brave enough to stick his feet in...murky. Cozulmel: All terrrain Truck and snorkle. Informative tour but the snorkle portion was rushed and tooo short! Walked around town and finished up at Carlos and Charlies: Watch out for those Margairtas!!! Belize: Took the catamaran rendevous cay tour. We took the afternoon one, which worked out well. We went to the shopping village in the AM (didn't have problem with tenders). We did walk outside the gate but that didn't last too long.........lots of people hassling you to take a tour, braid hair.......did not feel safe!! Shopping village was better then we thought it would be..... Snorkleing tour was beautiful but not a good for beginners. My husband is not the best swimmer and we picked this tour because it said it was good for both beginners and experiened. He ended up not snorkeling and just hanging around little island and I went on my way. One thing.........if your are comfortable swimming it is a good tour....there are guides wathching out for you but It was too much swimming for my husband. We thought there would be a beginners area.... Great rum punch for on the way back!!!!

Children: Only 400 kids compared to 900 the week before. No major problems noted with kids running...Camp carnival seemed to be working!!!

Embarkation: Long line at the Fun Pass.....not sure if that was helpful?? Took transfer from Airport...very smooth.

Deembartion: We had to waste time for out 5:00 flight home..Took The Galveston Tour with transfer to Airport. Immigration...........VERY long lines...They put us in the first group with the rest of the ship.........people who had early flights......WE were off the ship by 9:30 and had to go thru tons of luggage.........

Overall impression: I would not discourge people from going this crusie but you need to be aware that this ship is older...I think part of the problem was that we were expecting something different. Although it had been 2 years since the Paradise we both felt that we were on the same ship; decor wise and routine wise. We felt the overall sevrice was better on the Paradise.

I hope this helps somebody as I really found other's reviews helpful!!

Michele:)

welcome back:)......SOS should be part of Carnivals advertising...same ole sh***y routine on every ship....one sailing after another....same comedians rotating around...same basic menu year after year...same stale jokes and games...same dancing monkey routine in the dining room.....they can get away with this since a good number of their cruisers are first timers....many old time cruisers wouldnt be upset to see Carnival shake some cobwebs out and come up with some fresh ideas
