spailing Posted September 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2007 On the Sun would upper deck be preferable to Empress, I know that Empress is one deck higher but appears to be beneath the resteraunts etc on the next floor up.Would upper be quieter or is the noise from above not a problem. MsMinx Posted September 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2007 I chose Upper Deck for that same reason. I couldn't think of anything worse than being below a main public area while trying to rest/sleep! I also chose Upper Deck because it seemed to be more 'centred' and I reckon that's best for rocky days at sea ;) Less movement!
the kids and me Posted September 14, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2007 I've stayed on Upper & Main decks so I really can't answer your question. However when we stayed on Upper I found that we experienced a lot of vibration and slight engine noise, this was probally due to being at the stern of the ship U217. On the main deck we were in the middle of the ship and it was smooth(No Vibrations:) )With both rooms you could hear your imeadate neighbours on the same level but didn't hear noise from above or below. My opinon is that it really doesn't matter what level you are on......... just so long as you are on the ship having a great holiday:cool: Stewart
Whoey Posted September 14, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2007 Do you get seasick? If so then lower down the ship is better... we were on Empress about middle of the ship and found it nice and quiet, cabins E90 - E110 are a great spot to be.. if you can handle some rockin and rolling at night.. it's not BAD though, especially in the middle... good luck. sailawaysally Posted September 14, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2007 I like to be in the middle of the ship moreso than what level, but Upper level was good, no noises. Don't get a room near the laundry as it can get quite loud especially if people are yacking or fighting over the machines.
SouthAussie100 Posted September 14, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2007 we found that in the 'snob hill' (verandah deck 10) on the Star we could hear the crew putting all the deck chairs back where they were supposed to be overhead. Sounded like elephant hockey some days ! cheers ness prevoius notes of 'turbulence' felt in cabin sufficiently documented :o
michele49 Posted September 14, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 14, 2007 HI Cool cruiser, We stayed on Empress Deck on the Pacific Sun - mid-ship - it was fine --no noise & it's just so central --we spent a lot of time eating!! of course !! so you'll be fine. We are on the 1/10 Exotic Isles but this time on Main Deck - will be intrigued to see who the CD is.

basejump Posted September 14, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 14, 2007 any comments on being on the aloha deck on the star? any idea what the blank area aft of 7057 and 7058 is? will there be close proximity to the kids clubs and/or the show lounge? what are best worst cabins on this deck/ship? sweet_successes Posted September 14, 2007 #10 Share Posted September 14, 2007 The blank space is storage space for the cabin stewards - its were the sheets, towels, vaccuum cleaners, cleaning products are all stored. Aloha deck is fine. we were in 7062 (which is below public areas) and we could not hear a thing. rach
Shoesandhandbags Posted September 14, 2007 #11 Share Posted September 14, 2007 Hi Basejump. a group of us were on Aloha deck last week. We had 5 cabins - 7008,7012 and 7016 (outside) and also 2 inside 7010 and 7014. We found these all to be very quiet even though they are close to public areas - certainly no noice from above (casinos, bars etc). Even though we only had 2 people in each cabin, some of them are capable of sleeping 4 people - they just don't have the top bunks pulled out. 7008 is only a 2 berth cabin and doesn't have these bunks above the beds and because they "stick out" from the walls about head height this cabin actually had more room along each side of the bed - make sense? We didn't feel a huge amount of ship movement - you will always get the odd clanging and banging but overall we slept very well!:)

mac37 Posted September 15, 2007 #14 Share Posted September 15, 2007 We were in 7022 - too far forward to worry about the kids' area. :D Absolutely no noise from above (casino, casablanca, etc). Could not hear the show lounge. Fair bit of rocking and rolling on the rough days (and the mysterious Star Shuddering). Most noise was from the people who felt they had to shout to each other as they walked along the corridor past our door. AND they weren't the kids!! all the best Mac
Skyrules Posted September 15, 2007 #15 Share Posted September 15, 2007 We had people on our table who were on Deck 7 and one night all the teens coming out of the teen club at 1.00am knocked on every door down the corridor from the teen centre (aft on Deck 7) to the showlounge. Their daughter was one of them.
