WeBeGone Posted October 19, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Yes, what's the problem? Quite often taxes increase and when that happens, the computer generates such a notice so it won't take you by surprise. The computer sends the notice whether it's 47 cents or 47 dollars. I think it's a great service that heads off drama on board.
britsbest Posted October 19, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Times are hard if you make a drama over 47c
WeBeGone Posted October 19, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2007 I meant the drama of seeing a charge on your account that you weren't expecting. But I have seen drama over $1.99. You'd be surprised what causes drama for some people. Just look at the furor over the $10 autotip.

cruisinbuddy Posted October 19, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2007 I think the OP is refering yo the fact that it's an "Emergency notice". Well I guess it's cheaper doing it this way then to print out 1500 pieces of paper to be handed to the guests as they arrive.
notentirelynormal Posted October 19, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Maybe the said "emergency" because otherwise people would just throw it out and not read it? I see it as just trying to keep everyone informed.
Janan Posted October 19, 2007 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2007 .47 cents is a big deal when you multiply it out by the number of passengers ( in this case I just used 1000 for arguments sake not to good in the math dept here)....and Princess cruiseline is a business so I can see why they would rather have the individual passenger pay uncle sam or whomever rather than have $470 come out of their pocket. paul929207 Posted October 19, 2007 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Only a computer could do something like this. If a person decided whether or not to send the message, it would not have gone out or it would have been toned down.

Casshew Posted October 19, 2007 #11 Share Posted October 19, 2007 47cents x's thousands of passenger is a lot of dough. They probably send out the notification so they don't have to deal with hundreds of cheapskates lining up at at the Purser's desk to question the charge.
Anne Funnell Posted October 19, 2007 #12 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Auto tip has gone up to $10.50 and $11 for suites. It was still $10 12 days ago when we left the Emerald Princess......mind you, we were in an inside cabin so maybe they havent changed.
dforeigner Posted October 19, 2007 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Mexico is fixing to increase the tourist fees for people arriving via cruise ships. It will be about $5.00 per person. I am not sure if it is per cruise or per port though.

BJS Posted October 19, 2007 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Maybe the said "emergency" because otherwise people would just throw it out and not read it? I see it as just trying to keep everyone informed.Princess sends all of their notices to TAs or those that book directly with Princess as "Emergency". These include fee increases, port changes, passport or visa information and anything else that pertains to the voyage.
Colo Cruiser Posted October 19, 2007 #16 Share Posted October 19, 2007 It is pre printed like that, could be any amount. I know it sounds trivial but the books do have to balance. ;)

Well I guess it's cheaper doing it this way then to print out 1500 pieces of paper to be handed to the guests as they arrive. I have a cruise booked for november. The EMERGENCY NOTICE on my cruise says that starting in January, passports will be required. How is that an EMERGENCY NOTICE for my cruise? It doesn't even apply... Cruise38 Posted October 20, 2007 #21 Share Posted October 20, 2007 I believe the new tip of $10.50 goes into effect on Nov. 1. Any raise in taxes, no matter how small, is always passed on to the passenger. However, just remember that once booked and deposited your cruise fare never changes even if Princess raises it.
