hahah found you on another post heather and fred ( not real names) i just called NCL to get the real information. When we embark on the ship in NY we will be handed a customs forms. The form must be filled out at the end of the cruise and given to the customs officers in ny harbor. on that form u "have to" declare anything you bought over $1,000 and some other restrictons like cigars, cigarrettes and booze. so in answer to your first question when we pull into semana and tortolla its the same as any other port u just walk off the boat. There are customs officers that board the ship prior to disembarkation to clear the ship itself for disembarkation. sorry for the long response but i hope this clears it all up

You will not have to go through customs until you get back to the mainland. Most ports do not require you to go through immigration either, but if you stop at either San Juan or St. Thomas, after stopping somewhere else you will have to present yourself to the immigration authorities before you will be allowed to leave the ship. If you do not go they will come find you, and not leave until they see your documents. Remember this is immigration, not customs, two completely different things though they are often handled together.

Do you have to go through immigration here? Never been to this port before and was just wondering.

No, you don't have to go through immigration in Samana. It's in the Dominican Republic. Don't feel alone in asking, though :) ! Our next cruise goes to Samana and I had no idea where it was.
