Is What they say about RCI true?

kidless

Recommended Posts

Sorry, kidless, they are right, of course.

We ARE a bunch of boring snobby people. We roll up the carpets and go to bed at 11.

In the morning. ;)

Carol, whenever we finally sail together, I'm going to have to insist that I be able to go to bed a little earlier, 5 or 6am at least. You know us young ones get cranky if we don't get our sleep!:p

You have nothing to worry about with RCI. They have several bars and discos to go to and have a good time. You will be able to find plenty of things to do. Heck normally it was us going to be before all the old people. DH and I thought it was funny that we were going to our cabin while the older people were just going on to have fun.

Just to be sure you have an amusing start to your cruise, go the first night open karaoke and have a good laugh at the guys who've already had a few and are trying to sing.

On the other side of the coin, there will be a few participants that will raise the roof and sound fantastic. We had one woman on Enchantment recently who did Aretha Franklin's RESPECT and just belted it out perfect.

That's just one little fun thing you can do on day 1...

We had one lady on the Jewel that sounded exactly like Connie Francis. She was fabulous!

I have only cruised with RCI, so I really can't comment on Carnival. What I can tell you is that we have had three wonderful cruises with RCI and have encountered very few snobs. We usually make friends with our tablemates and hang out with them all week. There are a few snobs, but most places unfortunately have a few snobs.

I don't know what age you are, but my husband and I are in our late 20's and found that there are quite a few people in our age group who are fun to hang out with. Don't worry about us RCI-ers, we are a great group and you will enjoy your trip!

Ok, feeling so much better here. Thank you everyone. It isn't so much that we are late night people. We do like to dance, karaoke, casino and our cocktails although we don't puke in corners and I will talk to anyone who looks my way guess that is from being a stay home care giver to my MIL and was just getting the feeling that maybe RCI was to snobby. But you all have convinced me other wise.

Darkwolfe> We love Karaoke..DH doesn't sing but I do or I think I do anyway and on our last cruise on Carnival I won first prize in the Karaoke contest not for my singing ability just my twist on an old favorite..."I was a Virgin but it's been a really long time" so you will definitely see us there the first night!!!

Been on both myself and won't go back to Carnival. And I am a fun person who loves to stay out and have a great time. I have never had a problem stay out until 3-4 am on RCCL. And it was a fun party all night. On Carnival, I was always in bed earlier. Don't worry, all those people speaking that way of RCI are just jealous. Trust me, the carpets don't roll up early.

Well the "change of day" carpets are rolled up right after midnight  What a rude awakening when we leave the casino...;) ;)

 Ok, been on only Carnival have our first RCI cruise coming up next May. We were looking for a change and hopefully a step up. But reading the boards and I still do go to the Carnival threads I read a lot of comments on the RCI crowd. They make it sound like we will be on ship with a bunch of boring snobby people that roll up the carpets and go to bed at 11. I find this hard to believe so tell me how much fun you are. :D

I have been on one Carnival cruise and one RC cruise and about to sail on RC again very soon. I had a great time on both lines and never thought RC came off as boring or snobby. The Carnival crew was always saying hi on the ship as were some of the RC crew. I would sail either line again in a heartbeat! :)

When we sailed on Voyager class and Freedom class, at any given time, even around midnight -1am you will find the Pub on the Promenade rockin' and people having a great time. Not just there, but other places as well.

We are not at all "snobby or stuffy" we are up well past midnight (you will usually find me in the casino about that time :p)

You will have a great time and probably love it more than your past Carnival cruises.

I never found anyone to be snobby (just some rude people you find anywhere), but if you're looking for a step up, you'll never find it. You will find both lines are pretty much on par with each other.

And you should find that you will enjoy yourself immensely. You should also enjoy the change.

But being an early riser found myself in bed by 12 each night, and not because the ship "shut down".

Reading threads and experiencing something first hand are so on both ends of the spectrum. Even worse when people write "what they heard".

I have to admit that I am one of the "boring" people. I cannot stay up past 10:00 pm but it is not problem becaue I like to get up early and enjoy the ship when everyone else is sleeping. I go on the cruise to enjoy the different ports.

While Royal C has it's share of drunks and low lifes, Carnival is more like a drunken frat party. There is a far greater percentage of adults, who act like they are grown up, on Royal C, and many of them do go to the shows, entertainment activities and casino until 1:00 -2:00 a.m. on Royal C.

Aren't labels wonderful......;) . There are all types of people on all cruise lines and you can always find people who enjoy the same things you do. :) And there is certainly no one right way to enjoy your vacation.

But there there seems to be this need some "cheerleaders" have to find only negative things to say about other cruise lines - and only positive things to say about their favorite cruise line(s). Regardless of whether we are talking CCl cheerleaders, or RCI cheerleaders, or NCL cheerleader, etc. :o

I know there are cheer leaders on all sides and also some people who have one bad experience and then slam the entire line. But I thought I would put this thread up because sometimes you can tell if people have a sense of humor and are fun just by their responses which we did.

We are really looking forward to our May cruise and looking to change our September cruise on Carnival to one on RCCL......:D

I bet you also have some fantastic sunrise photos as well. Isn't the ship awesome at sunrise without people?

I did my first RCL cruise last November on Enchantment. Being a night person, I was delighted at the amount of people out and about after 2 AM. I was also surprised at the high percentage of drunks I came across. Didn't hamper my enjoyment or anything...just didn't expect the frequency with which I came across them. Oh BTW...I always seemed to get stuck with them on a long elevator ride or sitting next to me at roulette, or (dare I say) next to me at the urinal! ;) :D

Well, you can't include us in that definition. We may well be classed as boring & snobby (especially if you ask our kids or trailer trash friends), but NO WAY we are staying up until 11 PM. We may be older (50's and somewhat intelligent), but we try to act really immature in order to compensate. FYI, our meet & mingle are talking about water pistols & water balloons for our next cruise. There, feel better?

Pleeze though, leave your standard Carnival formal attire, wife-beater spaghetti strap t shirt at home.

We are on the Mariner May 11th we have Jr Suite and Balcony for our adult kids. We have gone to the roll call but it tends to be slow but we have signed up for the meet and greet. DH & I tend to be out going freindly people and usually meet new friends on the cruise. Even some we have cruised with again. RCI seems to have so much more to offer on ship to do and honestly we like Carnival but we feel they have gone down in the last couple of cruises with service, food, entertainment and other areas I won't mention and we are thinking sometimes you get what you pay for.

Hi Kidless, we're on the same cruise.

Trust me, our roll call for May 11 has as many if not a few more posts than our Dec. '07 cruise on the Jewel. 11 pages for a cruise 6 month away seems pretty good. I'm sure it will get busier when cruise time is closer.

Believe me if RCI were boring and full of snobs....I WOULD NOT BE CRUISING WITH RCI.....and I love the cruise line!! :D

Boring and Snobby.....maybe we drink our smuggled booze out of our flasks in the disco at 2am because it is quicker that ordering a drink and we only have to stop shaking our goove thang for 5 seconds instead of 5 min but I don't think that make us boring or snobby!!!! Tippsy and energetic maybe but not boring and snobby!! :D
