Fondy Posted June 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2004 We're cruising the Northbound Glacier Route so we debark in Whittier and fly home from Anchorage. I've read posts on the challenges flying out of Vancouver, but can anyone share experiences flying from Anchorage? Also, do they have a program similar to the one I've read about in Vancouver where you can have your luggage taken directly from ship to plane? Thanks! rogeralan Posted June 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Flying out of Anchorage is very easy; no customs, no immigration. Alaska Air checks you and your luggage in at the dock and buses (or trains) you to the airport or downtown.
Fondy Posted June 19, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Thanks for the info. I know by the end of the trip we'll be exhausted and the less stress the better! Carnival Spirit - 1st Time Cruisers
Krazy Kruizers Posted June 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Anchorage The problem with Vancouver is after visiting Alaska, it is the only foreign port. That is why it is such a hassle for customs and immigration. Anchorage is USA. And as a reult most people fly from there either to their hometown or to a USA connection. It does save a lot of hassle of customs and immigration especially since you have to face a long flight home.
Budget Queen Posted June 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 22, 2004 yes, no customs, but Anchorage can be a VERY congested airport with long slow moving lines. It is an airport I am always at 2 hours prior to flight time.

A native of Anchorage was in line ahead of us and she said the airport was understaffed with usually just two lines for security. I know the check in points were very congested. Be sure to get there, as BQ suggested, at least 2 hours ahead of time.
