From reading the posts it looks like there are two formal nights on the 8 day Mexico cruises. My questions are:

1. Can you get away wearing a nice dark sport coat and slacks?

2. How many "informal" nights are there? Would a sport coat and no tie work on those nights?

1. Yes, on formal nights just add a tie.

 

2. Yes, 5 or 6 informal nights, a polo shirt and some nice dress slacks is all thats needed for those nights, some people wear dockers.

Casual means to wear something like a polo and khakis. That's what I wear to all the dinners that aren't formal; then it is a suit and tie.

Carnival only has formal and casual nights; the informal nights when away because too many folks did not understand the dress term 'informal' to mean 'sportcoat' or something a bit more dressy than casual.
