Which one is more interesting? We will be on Princess Coral in Jan. and I am trying to choose between the two.Do not want much shopping-as little as possible.Have seen other fortresses and wonder if this one is special in any way.Leaning toward the Monastery but am thrown by the shopping included part.Is this mainly shopping or mainly Monastery? Thanks for your help.

Our tour guide in Cartagena told us that, right now, the roads to the Monastery are torn up for construction. Consequently, you may want to double-check to make sure that the Monastery tour is in fact available ...

Visited both the fortress and the monastery on Dec. 8 on a Princess tour. Both were quite interesting and had great views of the city. Not much shopping at either place, although there were plenty of street vendors, more at the fortress, and a few kiosks. The vendors were not overly aggressive and a "no, gracias" turned most away. Photo ops with a sloth and with a donkey at the monastery were very popular. The road up to the monastery was fine, although steep and winding. The scene along the way was an education in itself. I enjoyed learning the history of the fortress, a huge and amazing structure.
