  1. 1. What is your mix of vacations?

    • All my vacations are cruises.
    • I mainly take cruises, but occassionally I throw in a land vacation
    • My mix is about 50/50
    • I mainly take land vacations, along with an occassional cruise.
    • I never cruise, I just read the boards because I'd like to cruise.

We've taken only one cruise together in our three years, but have flown to Hawaii and have taken many land trips, visiting family several times and one trip to Niagara Falls. This fall and winter we have two wonderful cruises booked, and maybe there are more in the future for us.

We used to be strictly land people. However, several years ago we discovered a more civilized way to travel. Getting to go different places while having to unpack/repack only one time struck a harmonious chord with us. Yes, we still work in an occasional road trip or flight to another state; but cruising is our vacation of choice for now. As long as the Good Lord gives us good health and the means to do it, we will continue.

Jim said it best! I agree wholeheartedly!

I suppose we are 50/50. This year its 38 days cruising, one month in England/Spain/Gibralter, two weeks in Canada, and four weeks in Mexico. That, plus a few 3 day trips. Just got back last night from 3 days in Niagara falls with some girl friends....had to check out the new casino resort there!!......jean

I voted majority of cruises with a few land trips.

To clarify, ALL of my trips of 7 or more days are by cruise.

I travel a lot for business and slip in 2-3 day land trips when I can.

OK, I know some people are tired of polls. But after reading about S7S booking a back 2 back I wondered whether every vacation she took was a cruise, or whether there are other vacations sprinkled in there. Then I figured I'd pose the question to everyone, rather than just S7S (but SAIL, you're of course entitled to answer also).:)

I'm actually not sure how I'd answer this question. Up to last spring I had only been on one cruise in my life. But between last spring (2003) and next spring we'll have three more cruises.

However, in the future I think it will be about 50/50 for DW and I (although it would be more heavily weighted to the cruises if it was just me).:D

I am VERY predictable. Las Vegas twice a year, a cruise once a year and a trip to Disney World every now and then.. Chicago tossed in the mix for good measure about 3 times a year. I mix it up by staying in different hotels. When the kids are older we will travel more and do more exotic travel like I did before these, adorable but sometimes grumpy, children came along :)

We have to remember that while cruising is nice and convinient(packing/unpacking etc) it's often not the best way to see places...While you can do Caribbean islands this way ...it's not the best method to see Europe. I loved our 7 days Med cruise but I believe I saw only 1/10th of what these great Italian/French/Spanish cities can offer.

I also spent long time in St.Petersbourg, Paris and other historical cities and can't imagine spending just 1 or 2 days in each of them.

However I will choose cruise over 1 week on the beach in Mexico, Bahamas or Carib. Island. I usually get really board laying on the beach more than 20 minutes.;)

But cruising can help you decide which cities you want to go back to, and which there's no need to ever visit again....

We love to cruise but also love to take driving trips. We have been here at the Residence Inn at Sea World in Orlando since last Monday. Not a vacation but an evacuation. I'm ready for our October 20, 2004 cruise on Rotterdam. Maybe we will have our new roof by then. Who knows?

We've been in the "mostly land based with an occasional cruise" group, but see that in the future, we'll probably become a "50-50" or greater group member. One cruise on line for next month & another in the plans for next fall.

I voted 50/50, however the last 15 months it has been just cruises. We will be going on our 4th this month - Oosterdam, Panama Canal :)

Next year we were thinking of trying the river cruises - either to China or Europe.

In terms of "number of trips" its about 50/50, but counting total days, probably more by air. Usually try and spend a month or so of late spring in County Donegal and County Kerry, Ireland. Cruises to the Caribbean usually follow in the late fall and mid winter. Haven't done much cruising in the N.E. of North America or to Alaska yet. Maybe sometime soon. Cruising is still hands down the better value for us.
