Help-Hotel S. Beach

Last year before our VOS cruise we stayed at the Roney Palace. The rooms were very nice with an art deco decor, the Cuba resturant across the street was resonably priced and the food was excellent. We went back to celebrate the New Year and we stayed at the FountainBleu.... Wow.. The hotel, the grounds, the atmosphere was great. Coming from Chicago and experiencing the 80's in December helped as well as the "Rat Pack Theme" throughout. We liked them both.

I have stayed at the Doubletree Surfcomber and the Marriott South Beach. Both are nice hotels and are located on the beach. If you stay at the Marriott make sure that you get a room up high if you are on the southside of the hotel as there is a condo next door that can block your view of the ocean and of the ships coming in and out of port. I have some photos that were taken from the balcony of the Marriott in my link below from my Triumph cruise earlier this year. I prefer the Marriott over the Doubletree due to size of room.

My husband and I are staying at the Clevelander. It can be loud at night so ask for the suite or quiet side. It is right across the street from the beach and near Verace house and many places to eat. We leave for Miami in just over 3 weeks!

Is that the hotel that has the bar right off the street? If I remember correctly it seemed pretty dumpy. If this is the same hotel, are the rooms nice and clean? I remember telling my husband that if I had booked that hotel on line without seeing it, I would have been really bummed!

Yes the Clevelander is the one with the pool bar right off the street. It's a very fun bar,but there are much nicer accommadations in S.B.,and I would not recommend staying there.

With regard to the Roney Palace- it is GREAT and a relative bargain for that area. Really beautiful resort. However,it has just been bought by a large consortium. The hotel is temporarily closed, and some more construction/renioation is expected. So this is not an option presently, but should be a really good choice when it reopens.
