serene56 Posted September 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2004 One of my friends were taking her first cruise on the Fantasy on AUg 21st. I ordered her a cake on August 3rd. to be delivered to her cabin before sailing. (it was her birthday) I did not tell her that I ordered this-afterall I did want it to be surprised. When she came back I asked her about her cake- (she ordered on in the dining room (the charges were on her sign and sail card) she never got he one I ordered. ANyways- with much going back and forth with Carnival The lady states today there isnt much I can do because records show it was delivered. huh??? I guess lesson learned here is you cant surprise someone with a gift--you better tell them (just in case) Does anyone know if you have to sign for a cake that was delivered- or do they just leave it in the cabin? I know when we get drink coupons we have to sign for them before we get them.
Cotton Posted September 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2004 Serene, what a bummer. I have no answer for you....just wanted to say that I'm afraid to order something for just that reason. Since my son's going on his first cruise in December, I really wanted to order something nice to be sent to his cabin.... as a surprise. I don't want him to expect it, y'know? Where's the fun in that? BUT, how do I know it will be delivered? Yours is not the first time I've heard on a non-delivery. Carnival had better get their act together on this. I won't even try it now.:(
dream2much Posted September 24, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2004 I don't know the answer to your question but I think that stinks! You made a purchase through gift services and it wasn't received by the person it was intended for? That sucks. Since gift services said there was nothing they could do about it, I would file a claim with the credit card company and state you didn't receive what you purchased. Let them duke it out. Oh yea, and I would write letters!
bonniemari Posted September 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2004 I have ordered things to be delivered to either my cabin or friends/family several times and have never had a problem. When they are to be delivered at embarkation they don't have to be signed for. A couple of years ago I had our cabin decorated for my DH birthday and the decorations and cake were there when we got to our cabin. My TA also sends us something and it is always in the cabin when we get there and we have never had to sign for anything. I am having our friends cabin decorated and sending a gift back for their 25th wedding anniversary on the cruise we are all going on Oct 3 on the Conquest. I always take a printout of what I have purchased just in case. But so far I haven't had to use it.
Cotton Posted September 24, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2004 Bonnie, glad it's always worked well for you, but you have BEEN THERE and can see that it's actually done. We who aren't on the cruise have no clue until the recipient gets home from the cruise and says (when asked) that nothing was delivered.....see? Big problem. So, I just won't be ordering.
Bunkie103 Posted September 24, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2004 I ordered a cake delivered to our room with anniversary decorations last year and did not have to sign for it. Sorry to hear you had a problem with your "surprise" :(
countercast Posted September 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2004 dream2much is right. That's what credit card companies are for. Get it off your bill. Karen
serene56 Posted September 25, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted September 25, 2004 I have never had a problem in the past- this is the first time I ever sent something when I wasnt there. I will be writing a letter and letting my bank know of this problem. Thanks
sea_u_onboard Posted September 25, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 25, 2004 When I order something for someone else I print out a copy of the order confirmation, along with a note to go to the pursers office if they don't receive the gift and put it in an envelope. I tell them not to open the envelope until after the first night. This should give Carnival time to deliver the gift. If the gift isn't received then the receiver has proof that the item was ordered and can go to the pursers desk to get it taken care of.
pholter Posted September 25, 2004 #10 Share Posted September 25, 2004 serene56- do you know if there cabin was assigned and then they got moved to a different one?? I could see a mistake being made if that were the case, but not under any other circumstances. I'm sorry they aren't taking responsibility for their errors and I surely hope your credit card company disputes this for you.
serene56 Posted September 25, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted September 25, 2004 They were in a cat 6c gaurantee. But when I placed my order the lady told me that the gift will follow wherever they go. I have always been happy with gifts I got myself or someone else in my party- just makes me think- how many gifts are bought for people and never received. and if we dont tell the people there will be a gift = what recourse do we have in the end?
