herb Posted September 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2004 you can just forget about needlepoint on the plane. Put it in your suitcase. Same goes for scissors or nail clippers, since most have the attached nail file etc. They are very strict about that.
Liner Posted September 25, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2004 Hi Eileen!! We just returned from FL and my son's tiny manicure set scissors were taken by the TSA. Nail clippers are A-OK now. You can also take blunt ended scissors--just not the 'pointy' type. This site may be helpful to you! richtersl Posted September 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2004 Plastic, blunt end scissors may not pose problem but your needles may. It's best to just pack that needlepoint in your regular luggage.
MarnaLou Posted September 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 25, 2004 You can take a container of dental floss on board and use the blade to cut thread. That still leaves the issue of the needles, though. MarnaLou
mousecruiser Posted September 26, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2004 I just returned from a week long trip to Texas. Had no problems flying with cuticle scissors to cut thread for my quilting. I always have my needles pre-threaded, usually about 10-12 of them and I had no problems. My needles are only about one inch long though. I know it seems like an inconvience, but you might try going to the airport ahead of time and talking to one of the TSA inspectors. Show him/her the needles and ask them if they would be allowed or not.
pondfam Posted September 27, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2004 I take scissors that the medical offices use for cutting off tape. They are blunt on the end, but real sharp...no questions asked!
smiggy Posted October 2, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 2, 2004 I have had no problems taking sewing needles and blunt end scissors on the plane. I have even notice another woman using knitting needles on the plane.
