Inside Cabin Question

It depends on what their needs are. If they tend to be motion sick at all, lower and towards the middle of the boat is recommended. If that isn't an issue, I'd recommend that they go higher on the ship.

Decks 4 and 5 are both only partial decks, so you can't access the aft elevators without going up to at least deck 6. It makes it a little harder to get where you want to be. Deck 8 is nice and close to deck 7 (which is the promenade deck). We liked that as we used the loungers on deck 7 as "our balcony". Deck 8 does have one drawback in that the hallways zig and zag around due to the way the ship is configured -- but once you're used to that, it's not a big issue. We don't spend a lot of time by the pool, but if they will plan on doing that, something closer to the pool deck would be good.

All I can say is stay off deck 4 unless you don't mind 100s of passengers outside your door on port mornings. Forward on 4 you will get an automatic wake up call at tender ports as the anchor is dropped.

Ditto on deck 4!!! Even before they announce that you can get off the ship, the elevators are very busy and the stairwells are packed with people who don't always step aside when you say "excuse me" when you want to get upstairs for breakfast! Guess they're afraid someone will cut in line.

Personally, I'd rather be on one of the upper decks, closer to the pools, buffet, etc.

I agree with the other posts. Also, take a look at "what is above you". As I mentioned in an earlier post, last week we were in an inside cabin that was DIRECTLY below the casino and night club on the Spirit. Imagine the loud stomping and banging until 3-4am every single night! :(

If I'm sailing in an inside (which we often do), I look at the deck plans and spot where the main dining rooms are (usually deck 5) ;) and then look for easy access ;) (and it shows)!

Hi, Monte!

We really need to cruise together sometime! Sounds like your priorities are about like mine!

Hi, Monte!

Have you noticed that on many NCL ships it can be difficult to get directly to the aft dining room (elevators & stairways are usually involved) but the midship dining rooms (off the atrium) are easily accessed? LOL I have no problem with stairs before dinner, but afterwards-well it's not easy to roll a ball uphill!

You know I've wanted to cruise with you for a long time! What have you got planned?

We always seem to end up in the forward section of the ship. I really need to take into consideration that the main dining rooms would be easier to reach from the back of the ship :D . Since we've been on deck 5 (or lower) a couple of times, I have noticed that it can be a bit of a trick to find the best way to get to the main aft restaurant. You just can't get there from here!

If I can find your email address, I'll send you an email. I've got something I have been wanting to ask you that isn't cruise related at all - but it affects my sad state of having no cruise planned....

We had a great cabin on deck 10--10097. We were afraid of noise from the elevator but never heard a thing. It was convenient to dining rooms, buffet, pools. It was not as convenient for getting off the ship but that's OK. We booked the cheapest inside guarantee and got this cabin. If you are concerned about noise, decks between other cabin decks are generally safest noise wise.

Thanks, we were on the Dawn over Thanksgiving and we had a outside cabin just off the elevators. We too were concerned about the noise, but we never heard anything!! It was a great location!

I will tell them to keep that in mind!

AAAAGH! I'm in 4557! lol But looking at the layout, I'm about 1/3 of the way back on the ship, so hopefully not too close to the anchor. And people would have to wind around a hallway from the elevator/stairs to end up in front of my cabin. And it's not under anything but other cabins - the Stardust theater is on Deck 5 but it's more forward and I'm sure doesn't host anything later than midnight.

But, that's why I invest in a white noise machine and earplugs!! Just waiting for NCL to put up the specific excursions so we can decide what we're doing!

This is true on every ship we've been on (Princess, NCL, Carnival). The front elevators start at the lowest deck and don't go all the way up. The aft ones go to the higher decks, but not all the way down. Most ships, you can get from on end to the other on the Promenade deck. Then you can catch the correct elevator to get where you're going. Once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. :)

Sorry to tell you, but your cabin is very close to the gangway and you will have people walking past on port days. Check out the deck plans, that blank space between the yellow cabins is the gangway. We had 4547, just a few doors down from you. We are early risers, so we tried to get out of there before they started lining up. By the way, the only noise we heard was something hydraulic sounding, never figured out what it was. Maybe a service elevator for the crew.

Take advantage of the rates for the obstructed views on deck 8 and remember that the fish on the carpet swim toward the front of the ship. Worked for us but hubby liked the next deck up with the straight hallways. :D

Oh fudge. Tidbits I learn after I book. I'm on a different the ship on but just checked out that deck plan...*sigh*

*crossing fingers* Maybe they'll try to upsell us or something since our TA was trying to play up the honeymoon angle (even though we've been married for five years)....

Rats! I thought there was enough space. I have only put a deposit - maybe I'll call my TA (who is also my cousin) and see if she can get me a cabin on another deck at around the same price.

Thanks for letting me know my cabin is worse than I thought! :)
