Soda cards and lobster

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if these questions have been answered before, but I'm new to this cruising business!

First, if you purchase a soda card, do you have to use the same cup all week and carry it with you? That doesn't seem very sanitary--plus it sounds like a hassle to carry it around.

Second, will they serve lobster on formal night? My kids have been asking about it.

Thanks for sharing your expertise.

Yes, you use the same cup.

What ship are you sailing on and how long is your cruise? Lobster is usually served on cruises that are 5+ nights.

You do NOT have to use the same cup all week long. You can just go to any bar or dining room and they will give you cups. From my experience, you get a souvenir logo (Royal Caribbean) cup when you purchase the soda card, but you absolutely do not have to carry it around with you. My soda card was about $51 with tax for a one-week cruise (3/8/08).

We did NOT have lobster on formal night. I was pretty disappointed actually.

You don't need the cup for a soda ... they will put a sticker on your SeaPass card and the bartenders will put it in a glass if you prefer (and you will also get a glass at dinner).

Lobster is on 7+ night cruises now, and not necessarily on formal night.

When you purchase the soda package, you are given a souviner cup. When you want a soda you just show your card at any bar and they will give you a soda in a clean glass, each time. Same in the dining rooms.

See ... the soda is actually free ... that cup just cost $7/day. ;)

When I was on Freedom 1/6/2008. I bought a soda card at the bar right outside the Windjammer. The bartender gave me the sticker and I asked for the cup and he said they don't give the cups out anymore.

Which is too bad, because they are nice insulated cups -- and a lot bigger than the little glasses you get soda in otherwise.

On some ships lobster isn't served on formal nights, do you remember a fisherman's platter being offered on a non-formal night?
