Leaving Soon, Last Minute Questions!!!

We're getting excited because our first cruise leaves in a couple of days. :) I have a couple of last minute questions, I was hoping you all could help with.

1. Re:the secret door. We've located it on our ship, but is it a restricted area? Will we get yelled at for being there? Also, does the door say employees only, etc. (we'll be on the elation)

2. Re: drinks. The kids will be getting a soda card, but not sure I want one for myself. What are the prices of soda without the card? What about alcoholic drinks? Also, I read that during the captains party, alcoholic drinks are free, is this true? Any other time for free drinks?

3. Re:quarters. Do we need them for the arcade or is there a bill changer? Or can the kids use their room card?

4. Re: lanyards. Also read that these can be gotten for free in the casino. Do we need to go up there as soon as we board in order to get one? Can we just ask the purser for one? Will the kids get one in the kids club? (they are teens.)

Any other good tips or freebies that you can suggest? I just read yesterday about the Red drink cup being cheaper the first day too. I get excited about a good deal, lol!

Thank you all so much, I've really loved discovering this board and can't wait to get on our first cruise!!!

The secret door is not restricted. Just be careful of the wind tunnel when you open the door. We love this area for sailaways. Go out 1 nite late to gaze at the stars:D

Free drinks at the captains dinner. If it is held in a lounge w/ a bar you can go to the bartender and request something other than what they are passing out (which I do not usually like). I will usually tip a little too. Don't know how much soda is.

I remember seeing a table set up the 1st day giving the lanyards out. I had my own so I didn't go. Sorry... I'm not much help.

Go w/ a great attitude and have a wonderful cruise!!

2. Re: drinks. What about alcoholic drinks? Also, I read that during the captains party, alcoholic drinks are free, is this true? Any other time for free drinks?

I can't help w/soft drinks, but others are varied prices.

The Captain's party on formal night will have waiters with trays offering wine and drinks. If you want a specific drink that's not on the tray, go to the bar in that room and order whatever you want. I don't believe frozen drinks are available.

The Captain's dinner will be after the party, but no comp alcoholic beverages.

4. Re: lanyards. Also read that these can be gotten for free in the casino. Do we need to go up there as soon as we board in order to get one? Can we just ask the purser for one? Will the kids get one in the kids club? (they are teens.)

I've gotten my lanyards in the casino. Just go to the cage and ask for enough for your family.

If you go to the art auction, there is comp champagne. You don't even have to stay for the auction; just go in and wander around and enjoy your champagne before the bidding begins. I do that, and enjoy looking at the art pieces, but don't care for auctions.

Also, 'Tea Time' on sea day afternoons are nice; adds a little elegance to your cruise. No "spirits", but nice variety of teas and petit fours, sandwiches, etc.

Thank you all so much, I've really loved discovering this board and can't wait to get on our first cruise!!!

Enjoy every minute - free drinks or not!;)

1, without knowing which ship we can't really answer the secret door. Most of them from what I cna tell aren't that secret, they are just all the way forward and it is a double door that leads to a forward deck.

2, if I remember right it is 1.25 for a can of soda, but yourself a 24 pack and carry it on with you, or a 12 pack, we bought 2-6 packs of the bottles and it lasted us.

3, can't help you there.

4, i've heard they are in the casino as well, we were already set up.

5,freebies, go to the pursers desk and ask for a deck of cards. Make sure and eat the goat cheese pizza. Do the galley tour if they offer it. If you are a foodie.

I assume since there is a "secret door" on the Elation...there is one on the Paradise? Where is it?? :D

If we told you it wouldn't be a secret.

LOL, I believe it is in the front of the show lounge.

Also, does the door say employees only, etc. (we'll be on the elation) Don't know about a Secret Door... never found it.... our doors were locked by our cabin, so we coud not get out.

soda 2$ a can if you do not have a soda card. Drinks range from 5.50 - 15.50. Souvioner cups are most expensive.. ie.... coconut monkey,

3. Re:quarters. Do we need them for the arcade or is there a bill changer? Or can the kids use their room card?

special tokens only purchased in the Arcade. YES, they can get tokens with their sail and sign card.

4. Re: lanyards. Also read that these can be gotten for free in the casino. Do we need to go up there as soon as we board in order to get one? Can we just ask the purser for one? Will the kids get one in the kids club? (they are teens.)

Don't go as soon as you get on the ship.. they are not open then... Wait till the casino opens that night. NO the kids will not get one in Kids clubs. you can purchase special ones for them in the gift shop.

just out of curiosity - what is "the secret door"? And where does it lead to? And would anyone know where it is on the Carnival Glory?

The secret door is usually located on the Lido deck forward on the left side of the ship. If you walk all the way to the front of the ship, on the left side, there will be a door at the end of the hallway. Go through that door and then there should be another door. That door leads outside. It is an area at the very front of the ship where you can gaze at the stars and moon at night or just take in the beauty of the sea during the day. Everytime we were coming into a port, I would go out to this area and watch as we came into the port. A few times after dinner, we go to the late dinner, DH and I would go out to this area to look at the stars and moon or watch a beautiful sunset. I ran to this area every morning to watch the sunrise, which you can find the sunrise and sunset times on the cover of your capers. I got some beautiful pictures. The area is secluded and the times we went out this door, no one was there. Find it when you go on your cruise!

There are free drinks at the Captains cocktail party and the past guest party for those who have cruised with Carnival before. Free champagne before the art auction and free liquor tasting outside of the shops one evening.
