Grand Princess: Raised toilet seat & wheelchair reservation

We just got off Grand Princess yesterday and thought I'd post a note in hopes that it would help someone else. We traveled with my mother who has mobility issues. We did not reserve a HC cabin as she doens't need the space.

Her cabin was booked thru Princess and requested a raised toilet seat and shower stool. Plus we reserved a wheelchair for the cruise. There was no cost for this but a 100 damage assessment if any damage.

Nothing was there when we got on the ship but we talked to the cabin steward about our needs. By evening she had everything.

The toilet riser fit in the commode and was great. With out it she couldn't have gotten up.

The shower stool wasn't really helpful since the shower was just too small and would have put her head under the water at all times. It would have worked well with a hand held spray. She did ok without it.

The wheelchair was great for some bumpy seat days (we missed Grand Cayman because of high winds and waves up to 12.5ft.) We didn't take it off ship at all. We didn't get off at Jamica and everything else was tendered.

Staff was always helpful.

Had one of our worse experiences on the Grand Princess on her maiden voyage. We no longer trust Princess or any other cruise line to meet our needs. We take our own wheelchairs (power and manual) and our own shower/commode chair which rolls into the roll-in shower and over the toilet, so we don't need a raised toilet seat either.

Were you refused entry to the tender or ashore using your own wheelchair?

In Grand Cayman, the port authority closed the port to all ships because of the waves.

The only place Mom got off was Cozumel and we didn't try to take wheel chair off, she just walked with her cane. Although have to say getting her from ship to the commercial tender in Coz was SCARY  . Grand and tender going up and down differently, a 10'steel plank with handrail between the two going up and down and sideways! Won't do tenders with her anymore!
