happy tigress Posted April 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2008 There will be five of us sailing on an Alaskan cruise in July with Holland America - Ryndam. Two are sharing a balcony cabin and the other three are sharing an oceanview guarantee. Here is my question: Is it possible for one of the three to move into the balcony cabin with the other two once we have sailed so it is not too crowded. Would they let us do that? Any advice from all you seasoned cruisers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
GORDONCHICK Posted April 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2008 First, the balcony cabin may not have a berth for a third person (some do, some don't - cabins with more than the standard two berths aren't that common). Second, you would need to settle who's in what cabin when you board because your seapass is your cabin key, plus it's how you purchase things on board (like drinks, spa treatments, etc). fann1sh Posted April 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2008 Although GordonChick is right about both keys/not all deluxe balconies have a sofa bed, Ryndam has a LOT of them: 2/3 of all balcony cabins. (Look for the empty circle next to the cabin number on the deck plan - that means a sofa bed). HAL won't mind if you re-arrange cabin occupancy, as long as the 2 booked for the balcony cabin don't mind (since they'll have paid more than a standard inside). However, I've stayed in those cabins quite a few times, triple occupancy. The shape of the cabin - very little space at the foot of the beds - make it a nightmare for getting changed for dinner/sharing a bathroom with 3 bodies flitting around. You could find the outside more practical for 3, even though smaller! BTW, don't worry about the comfort of the sofa bed. Much more comfortable than conventional sofa beds on land - no hardship to sleep on it. However, the regular beds are absolutely dreamy!
