My gripe already with P&O - haven't gone yet.

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

I am after some feedback from ppl who booked a cruise any time up to October - on the "earlly bird special" - offering 35% discount if booked before end of Oct 07.

I am setting sail this Sunday on the Pacific Dawn. Reason is I myself booked this early bird special - booking on 27 Oct and gaining a 35% discount. But also included in this special was $100 voucher per person - credited to their onboard account. I chased this up today and was told through my travel agent that I was not going to get it. She spoke to 8 managers at P&O, but to no avail. However, P&O advised if I could produce something on paper proving same, they would honour it. I'm not quite clear of the reasoning - or lack of - for this decision, but I am extremely disappointed and cranky as my group consists of myself, my partner, and my 2 boys and I have spent 2yrs saving for this cruise and have just managed to save enough spending money. I figured the $100 voucher would certainly help all of us, as I do not earn a lot of money.

The principle of honouring something P&O have advertised is the main issue here. As I did not have foresight (oh how that would be handy), I did not copy paste the advertisement into my computer for future reference. I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or has everyone else been honoured with this advertising 'hype'? Plz do not think I am not grateful for the discount I have already gained thru booking early. This is just a matter of honouring something they have chosen to offer the public.

Firstly, you did not get a discount by booking on the early bird special, they advertise it everytime they put out a new brochure, and no one pays the full fare, well no one I know of;) ....when you can get cheaper fares with on line T/A's.

Secondly, always save any data re vouchers, OBC etc that you may qualify for. I had to call P&O to ask for a new confirmation when I had booked with the OBC, and have saved that for future reference.

When I booked my Dawn Princess cruise with an online T/A, the confirmation I recieved did not have the OBC included, I emailed back and asked for the correct confirmation, which they updated and I have on email and will take with me.

If you booked with P&O, they should have details as to where they advertised and when your booking was made..........as I have said in another thread, ask for Customer relations and make an official complaint.

I keep hard copies of all the bookings I make in a folder and keep all my emails too:)

Good luck

Chez

hi milly, what the T/A should have done when you paid your deposit, it should have been on your docs the amount owing plus any obc so maybe they are in the wrong, it might be a bit late now but i would be speaking to your T/A and ask what are they going to do

I hope you have some success Milly, you seem very excited and have saved long and hard to get on this cruise. Try ringing P&O direct and ask for supervisors, refuse to hang up.

Good Luck!

Hi, We got back from our P&O cruise about a month ago and had a great time. However, we were a bit put off by the constant upselling by the staff. It's not their fault, certain staff have to make a quota of sales each day. However, all these special offers of liqueurs in fancy take home glasses, welcome cocktails in take home glasses, preorder from the special wine list for special dinner nights, book and pay extra for dinner at the outback grill, photos taken by the photographer, DVD of the cruise etc etc etc etc became a bit of a joke at our dinner table after a while. If you don't keep an eye on it, you can get a pretty rude bill at the end of your cruise. We are not heavy drinkers and we did not book any port trips through the ship and never went to the casino, but we still averaged $50.00 a day each on our cruise card account. I don't know what it would have been like with kids on board - the icecream parlour would be a big attraction for them and that alone could add up for a family. So please try to ensure you have saved more than you expect to spend as although a cruise sounds great because it's an all inclusive fare, the uncontrolled extras could ruin a really nice holiday.

Hi Milly

How disappointing, but I would have thought that if you booked through a t/a that they should be the ones that honour the special?

I agree with this...I find it hard to believe that your TA booked you a special and didn't keep a record of the offer....?

In my limited experience with P&O (booking directly thru them not using a TA) they haven't ever offered me a OBC at booking- they have offered upgrades, kids free etc.

On my last cruise I saw there was a OBC on offer at a well known travel agents I rang P&O, booked direct and asked about it-they simply gave me the cruise for the advertised price less the OBC that was advertised (actually they also gave me an upgrade).

(I should clarify that P&O have given me OBC's- our first cruise was cancelled so there were OBC's-a-plenty...but never at booking stage.)

Well maybe someone else has a different experience of OBC's but my opinion (for what it's worth:rolleyes: ) is you go to a TA to handle this stuff for you...sounds to me like they are just hand-balling...:(

We thought the same thing when we booked our cruise earlier this year, but the fine print stated that the OBC only applied to certain cabins. We have an inside cabin so unfortunately we don't qualify.:(

Hi Milly, Im travelling on the same cruise...so keep an eye out for me!!! Sorry to hear about your OBC issues... I have booked a cruise for next year and was offered $100 OBC per person (including kids) I too had to get it reprinted out on my receipt as the first time it didnt come up - I would be definatly hassling your travel agent about it...

On my receipt from my online t/a it is stated $200 obc . YOu might have the same prob as oatley girl and not in a qualifying cabin. You always gotta read the fine print

On our Jan cruise when we booked we were told we get $100 PP OBC Then when we got our tickets it said $100 per booking!

When we boarded I only expected $100 between us but got the $100 each?

Ask at portside when you get your cruise card.

Certain catagories with an astrix* get on board credit while others do not, but the advert says obc so you must be mindful of the small print as most of the cheaper cabins dont have the obc asterix*
